Week 524
John 20:15 - 16
15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).
The Joy of the Lord
A question came up recently which was, someone emphasizing the difference between being Happy and Joy. It is a question I have thought about in the past. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 20:15-16:
15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).
In these verses Mary Magdalene is in sorrow as she visits Jesus's tomb and finds it empty, her initial thought is that someone has stolen Jesus's body. Mary appeared to be in complete sorrow.
When my mom passed away, I was in complete sorrow. The sadness I felt was sheer, you see growing up it is something I had thought about a lot. I realized how dependent I was on my mom, and how much I loved my mom and was dependent on mom. I would pray each night for Mom's protection and God not to take my mom away. When the day came it was unbelievable.
Mary, I can imagine strongly how she felt when Jesus who passed away was suddenly alive. Her sorrow turned to happiness. This happiness however is temporary as happiness is not meant to be a lifelong commitment, however, joy can be experienced. Knowing who Jesus truly was ever more now would have created a joy in Mary that would be carried for the rest of her life.
Amid my mom's passing, I had a sense of peace and joy knowing that one day I'll see mom again as mom is not experiencing pain any longer and is with Christ.
As Christians, we are not immune but think through what you may be facing and know that Christ is with us. This will produce a sense of joy knowing that you are not facing your circumstances alone.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

John 21:15
15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
When We Fail
Just this week, I got into a discussion with a friend that escalated into a disagreement. I had a point of view that I believed was correct, and a friend of mine saw things her way. This caused a rift and in the morning, I felt bad for allowing things to escalate. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 21:15:
"15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
Here in this verse Jesus has resurrected and has met His disciples along the shore. Jesus meets with Peter in front of the others and asks Him the same question three times. The reason Jesus asks Jesus this question multiple times is more than likely multi-fold, however, one reason I am highlighting tonight is the fact that Peter denied that he knew Jesus. Essentially Peter failed Jesus.
When I was younger I know there were many times when my mom would have asked me to do something where I did not do what I was asked. Essentially I failed Mom. In everyone's life, we fail someone, sometimes we are offered forgiveness and sometimes we aren't. When we fail the Lord, as Christians we don't need to wallow in it, the most important thing is to turn to the Lord for forgiveness over our sins. We need to know that God forgives us through Jesus. We can turn to Him, through the power of the Holy Spirit and seek Him.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

John 10:11
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Bread, Light, Gate, Good Shepherd, Resurrection, [The Way, The Truth, The Life], The Vine
Good Shepherd
Being a Christian opens my eyes to worldly things and things that are not Working in the corporate world is one of those things. One of the things I notice in the corporate environment is how much at times many people may and may not resemble Christian behaviors. In tonight's verse, we come to a conversation Jesus is having from the pages of John 10:11:
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Jesus is showing here how He is the Good Shepherd, and how He leads. He is the shepherd the leader that will protect His sheep. He will go to the extent of laying down His life for His people.
I'll never forget as a kid hitting my finger, crying looking at a pic of Jesus, and wondering why I was in so much pain, but finding comfort in Christ. My mom was with me and one of the things I recall was my mom making sure I was OK. The image of Jesus being a shepherd who leads yet will also protect us, is also the image I look for in corporate life. It's interesting because at times I work with people who lead, yet still willing to take the blame for when things go wrong, and then the opposite.
As Christians, I'm suggesting we follow the lead of the Good Shepherd, in all aspects of our life. Are you?
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

John 6:40
For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them at the last day.”
Fix Your Eyes
Last night I was talking to a friend and she was going through so much. One of the things I noticed is that she had a lot of pent-up frustrations towards people that she did not look inside to where the problems lay. In that sense, she started to blame everyone for her life, (including me) but had no ownership of herself. As I began listening all I could see was that her life was fixed solely on the here and now, and her life was not focused on Christ. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 6:40:
For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them at the last day.”
It was back in a time when I was going through a lot and my mom told me one thing she is praying for me. When my mom said this to me, I felt great calm, knowing that my mom cared. More importantly, one of the things my mom additionally said was for me to pray. My mom was reminding me that my eyes should not be focused on the problem but on Jesus, to seek Him in all that I am doing and while I am going through what I am. By doing so I would see the problems as God sees them.
In our lives as Christians, it is so easy to gaze upon the problem to see the weight of the world slowly compact us. But even with that, our lives should be focused on Christ. This is not something that should be taken lightly but should be taken with intention and vigor. Jesus knows our problems, He wants us to turn to Him in these moments and know He will carry us through them (Matthew 11:29).

Week 528
2 Samuel 19:7
7 Now go out and encourage your men. I swear by the Lord that if you don’t go out, not a man will be left with you by nightfall. This will be worse for you than all the calamities that have come on you from your youth till now.”
Pushing Through With The Right People
I had an injury that was about 17 months ago. This injury was very debilitating, not just physically but mentally. It was during that time that many things affected me and changed and now that I look back at those days I wonder how was I not crushed by the mental weight that was upon me the answer is the Lord. In tonight's verse, we come to 2 Samuel 19:7:
7 Now go out and encourage your men. I swear by the Lord that if you don’t go out, not a man will be left with you by nightfall. This will be worse for you than all the calamities that have come on you from your youth till now.”
The verses that preceded it describe David the king of Israel and Judah whose armies had just been victorious, by God's grace, sat and mourned his son Absalom. Joab one of the commanders of David's armies heard about this and knew that the victory that day had turned to mourning. However, he understood David but wanted him to muster up the strength to encourage the army of people who fought alongside him.
When I was younger I recall a time that won't even compare to David's feelings but the sentiments are there. I had just successfully purchased a car at a dealership and entered into a loan for the very first time. I brought the car home and parked it. However, I felt very worried, I was worried about how I would pay for this car, and my mom came along with me and told me not to worry, effectively encouraging me that things would be OK. That act alone gave me the strength to keep pushing forward without fearing things.
God sends us the right people to us especially when we need it, it's important to understand this and to see them in those moments as God works through them. These people are the right people at the moment to help us push through our current challenges and obstacles. Much the same as David it is important to surround ourselves with people who care about us, and are genuine ahead of time like Joab was for David.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Psalm 25:8
8 Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
The Goodness Of The Lord
Many times I'll read a verse and then go right past it to continue reading. This is why I think Bible study is very important. I am currently part of a Bible called BSF and it wraps up in a few weeks. It's challenging at times but it does help me keep my focus on the Lord. In tonight's verse, we come to Psalm 25:8:
8 Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
When I go through my day I often remind myself that the Lord is with me, He is protecting me and watching over me, though I may not see things immediately I know the Lord is there. What I mean is I may not see His goodness in the way I may see fit, but I know He is there. For example, when I was younger I worked a job at a fast food place, I did this ultimately so I could help my mom. It was a good time but also a challenging time. I remember being on the bus after school, going to Downtown Chicago, working out, then getting back on a bus to go straight to work, and working until Midnight sometimes, later, coming back home to study. It was hard, but even at that age, I knew there was something better.
As I grew older I found better things that were only because of the Lord. He protected me through many of life's ups and downs though I did not see it at the time, the tough times when I was going to school were preparing me for a "professional" life, learning the importance of saving, giving, and spending. Though tough times are not gone for example when my mom passed away I was having a tough time. In the midst, I could look back and see all that God did for me and trust that though I may not understand He knows what He is doing.
The Lord is good and upright He instructs His people to follow Him, and to trust Him. Today look at your circumstances I encourage you, to see and know that The Lord is there He will protect His people. Nothing eludes the Lord's watchful eye.

Deuteronomy 15:11
11 For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, 'You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’
Support For One Another
I have been in contact with one of my friends who is looking for work I have been sending him job leads that come my way. The other day he called me and said he appreciated the support I had been giving him. As we talked, however, he heard a level of anxiety coming from me. I told him that I was working on building something on my own and he turned offered advice to me. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Deuteronomy 15:11:
Deuteronomy 15:11
11 For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, 'You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’
When I was younger my mom who raised us alone, struggled a lot with things, one was finances. I recall there was an older lady who would come by mom's house weekly, she would bring food, for us after Church. This older lady we called "Grandma" and she helped us out a lot. At the time as a kid, I didn't think much of it but as I reflect I realize what a blessing she was to my mom and us, by God's grace.
As I got older I think perhaps this was passed to me. You see when we help others we lay the foundation maybe unknowingly for others. In turn, those we help may help others who are in need. This is something the Lord told the Israelites in tonight's verse. We honor the Lord when we help others knowing that everything we have been giving is not our own but is God's and we are simply stewards of that (Psalm 24:1). This includes every aspect of our lives, including relationships with others.
Today recognize what you have been given and that God is the owner and we are stewards, foster a relationship of giving, not just in physical needs, but in your entire life which includes emotional and others.

Week 522
John 19:21
21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”
Jesus Our King
Many times in life we face issues and encounter circumstances in our lives that seem so insurmountable. I know as I have been mentioning the last few weeks of issues I have been facing have taken a toll on me. They seem so insurmountable but trusting in Jesus our King is of the utmost importance, especially during these times. Let's explore what this means tonight. Our verse comes from John 19:21:
21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”
You see in the above verses Jesus before being crucified, Pilate (the person who sentenced Jesus) put a message on the cross that read "Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the Jews." (John 19:19). When the Chief priests saw this message they exclaimed to not write this, but that this man claimed to be so. All I ever remember about Jesus as I was growing up was that my mom would always hold Him in reverence and taught me in many different ways who He is. My mom always said, "God is watching you". This created a sense of accountability in me, knowing that no matter what I was accountable to Him.
Ultimately as I review this I understand that Jesus is the Lord of my life, He is the King of my life, and this means that I trust Him, in everything and all that I do. You see when someone is your leader, and I mean truly your leader, you trust that person, to the point where, wherever that person leads you will go. Kids experience this with their parents, although this changes as they grow older.
The chief priests missed making Jesus the King of their lives, as Christians today, we can learn from their faults. We can truly make Jesus our King. We do this by choosing to place our trust in Him for the forgiveness of our sins and trust in every aspect. This includes when things are not going so well, and when things are, we can choose to remember that despite all that goes on our King, our Leader, knows, and trusts Him to help us through every and all situations and circumstances, especially when they seem insurmountable. This answer help is given to us through the Holy Spirit who serves as our Advocate, the Spirit of truth that reveals Jesus to us.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Home with our King.

Week 374
Numbers 22:26-28
26 Then the angel of the Lord moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left. 27 When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, it lay down under Balaam, and he was angry and beat it with his staff. 28 Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and it said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?”
What We Should Do When We Feel Frustrated
Just this week, I needed some landscape work done, it's important for me as I think it should be for all Christians to take care of what God has given us. Well on that same day my neighbor texted me and told me the chimney, cover was broken. I felt so frustrated by this, because I knew it was going to be a cost to repair and on top of the landscape work I was having done. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of Numbers 22. Just a brief background Balaam was on a journey that was not the will of God, as he was on this journey, the donkey he had been riding stopped three times. Each time Balaam would strike the donkey to get her to keep moving. Well Balaam was taking his frustration out on the donkey, yet there was a reason the donkey kept stopping:

When I was younger I wanted a video game system, my mom thought it would be a good idea for me to get one, but because of the expense, mom said mom would save up the Summer and Christmas allowance that mom would normally give us. I was OK with this, because I really wanted this game system. When mom saved enough for me, we went to the store to get one, but it was all sold out. My gave the clerk our number and said when they came back in stock to call us needless to say I was frustrated. I waited months feeling frustrated and it was then we received a call from the clerk at the store that the game system was available.
In Number 22:32-33 The angel of the Lord told Balaam that I would have killed you because the reason for the journey was a sin. Balaam realized that though he was frustrated it was the Lord's purpose to stop him.
As I look back when I was a kid, and even the events of this past week, I realize something that we should all do as Christians when we feel frustrated, and that is we should ask and think of the Lord. We should ask and think what is the Lord trying to teach me here. Well as I look back as a kid, I believe the Lord was teaching me patience, and just this past week the Lord was teaching me something that I was fearful of, and that is "climbing on roofs". I went up on the roof for the first time to examine the chimney cover and to repair it. This is something I probably would never have done, but my thinking was perhaps the Lord is allowing me to be frustrated so that I could over come this fear.
We as Christians must always fix our eyes on the Lord and when we do we may come to realize in times of frustration, why the Lord is allowing something. It won't always be easy and it takes practice however remember this when you become frustrated, ask and think "What is the Lord trying to show me...".
Love you mom and I love you Lord.
