Weekly Verse and Song for Tonight Weeks 321-328
March 18, 2020
Week 321
Luke 12:19-20
19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’
20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
Just a week ago today there was not as much confusion and hostility that it seems to be in the world now. However, because of this COVID-19 virus outbreak, it seems people have forgotten, the Lord. I was at the store this morning, and I started off just buying some lunch meals. As I walked the aisles I noticed something the shelves were empty. I met a fellow shopper who was really frustrated, all he wanted was to buy some noodles but the store was out of them. This shopper mentioned why are people taking everything and not leaving some for others?
In tonight's verse we read from Luke where Jesus talks about the rich fool. Now this parable is not necessarily a parable about hoarding but a parable about a rich man who cared more about himself than God. In this parable that Jesus told, this rich man stored up a life here on Earth did not think about or give to God and therefore was not "rich" towards others. During these times that we are living in it seems that it is in fact important to stock up on things that are needed, but overly stocking up and forgetting about God therefore others is a sin.
Growing up I know mom would always make sure we had what we needed, in fact if mom was here I know mom would tell me to stock up. However, as Christians we need to remember we do not live this life alone and for ourselves. We live for the Lord, He is the one who provides our needs, is in charge of our life and will provide for us. We must not forget this, He will provide for us.
As I walked down one aisle looking for some items I realized it was mostly empty as there were a few items available, I thought to myself remembering the shopper I met, I could buy this item but I have enough, and said I should leave it for someone who needs it.
My attitude was shaped by that shopper, and I was reminded to leave for others, who need it. I was reminded not take in over abundance, for unlike the "rich man" in this parable I was reminded that I serve God and He is the one who will provide, and because I serve God, He sustains me. We must all remember this by serving God we are serving others.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.
Home with the one we serve.

Week 322
John 11:38-40
38 Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. 39 “Take away the stone,” he said.
“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”
40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”
This week has been much the same with a slight twist. More states have what is called a "shelter in place. This shelter in place is a restriction on the movement of people together in certain areas to prevent the spread of this virus COVID-19. During this unprecedented outbreak which is on a global scale I have not seen an outpouring of people turning to the Lord. At the same time this lack of outpouring may be because the world we live in has distanced itself from God. This may happen because of many reasons, one being if there was a "God why doesn't He do something about this...?"
In tonight's verse we read in the book of John, Jesus returning to the home of Mary and Martha. Their brother Lazarus has died and was placed in a tomb. The women sent word to Jesus before Lazarus died yet Jesus did not rush off to help him. When Jesus did show up the women seemed appreciative but knew it was too late for their brother had died 4 days ago and was in the tomb. Jesus the passage tells us was visibly moved by the women's pain. When the women explained to Jesus that their brother had been dead for 4 days, Jesus replied "that if you believe, you will see God's glory."
When my mom passed away I was very emotional I was hurt that God let this happen, I cared for my mom and did what I could to take care of mom. However, now that mom was not here I could not believe this. I wondered if God knew my pain, and I wondered why mom had to leave. As I read through the passage tonight I have answers. Jesus wept as He was visibly moved by the women's pain, and as such God knew my pain. Next why my mom had to leave was ultimately for God's glory, for since my mom passed I was drawn even more to Jesus.
In the current situation we live in we may be asking questions such as why God is allowing this to happen? and or does God even understand our pain? Based on this we may turn from God, stop believing in Him, or further distance ourselves from ever thinking there is a creator. The Bible answers to these questions and more. The fact is God does in fact know our pain, and though He may not act on our time table such as the passage above, we need to know all that is happening is for God's glory.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 323
Psalm 30:4-5
4. Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people;
praise his holy name.
5 For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning.
Today is April 1st a lot of people consider it April Fool's day, a day where people play tricks on others. However here in the present situation we are far from thinking about April Fool's Day. The world is under this pandemic from this virus known as COVID-19 and many are under orders of a "lock down" by local and state governments . There are numerous healthcare workers who are under tremendous strain and stress, both emotional and physical. Just turning on the news you can feel the pain of families and loved ones who are suffering, just feeling this amount of pain and not literally being there one can surmise that the pain can only be compounded to the highest levels one can stand. My heart bleeds as I watch these healthcare workers and families suffer, and not one of us are exempt from this virus. However God knows, and He is in control. One of the thoughts that keep coming to mind is God is allowing such so ultimately the world will know their need for His Son, Jesus Christ.
In tonight's verse we read from the pages of Psalm, which is a Psalm of David, who is thanking the Lord for the adversity God brought him through. In the verse David knows God's anger however he understand that it lasts for some time but then God will remove His anger and rejoicing will come. This is something that we as Christians must understand we face what we face because of our own abuse, our own neglect and our movement away from the creator. The world is in turmoil and I can only understand this as a Christian that we as a people as a human race have moved away from God, and His anger burns on us, however He is allowing this only for a time. It's hard to write this into words but when we understand who God is, we will understand.
I know my mom has always instilled in me this value and understanding that God is watching you. As a kid it has not only been my mom's way of letting me know that even when mom wasn't around God is watching, but the truth. We all may live, lives where we think we are in charge, can do what we want and are therefore are not accountable to anyone. However, we are all accountable to God. As Christians we should know this and be reminded, for non-believers they must recognize their need for Jesus.
As we look around the world and see this devastation from the deaths that are going around everyday because of this current pandemic, we must realize that we need to draw closer to Christ. Go to Christ in prayer and through His word (the Bible) draw close to Him, for Christians this is true, and for non-believers this is true, to understand your need for a savior by the power of the Holy Spirit and bow your knees to Jesus. Jesus is the only way.

Week 324
Mark 14:62
"I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
During the current life we are living under an unprecedented situation in which not just a country, a state, a city, or a town are closed but the entire world. Let this soak in for a few seconds and you'll feel overwhelmed maybe even scared, as Christians however keep in mind that we for the better part know the story. In tonight's verse we hear from the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus was arrested and is now standing before the High Priest, who asked Jesus “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” and we read Jesus response "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." This is a wonderful but more importantly a true picture of what Christians should keep their minds on especially during these times.
I recall a few years ago when mom was having a lot of pain, I recall mom at the same time having a lot of peace. Every Saturday night for a few years mom would watch Billy Graham's crusade specials and when the "call" would come up towards the end and the song "Come as I am..." would play mom would make the comment, "I feel like Heaven has come down". This was so comforting for my mom.
The same should be for Christians we are in the world but not of the world, yet we suffer like the rest of the world in our own individual ways. We must remember that whether we suffer and pass, or suffer and live, no matter what we have the truth we know that there will be a day when Jesus shall return, and put all things right.
No matter what this life provides there is no better place than being with Jesus. Keep this verse and truths on your hearts and minds. Praise God, put your trust in Jesus Christ, He will complete this life.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 325
2 Timothy 2:23-24
23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.
It's been a few weeks now and the world is currently under lockdown, it seems like these times can perhaps stir people in a way that is less than delightful. In tonight's verse we read a letter by Paul written to Timothy, the letter is written in a way where Paul is instructing Timothy on how as a pastor he should carry himself. Paul tells Timothy to avoid foolish arguments, because they produce quarrels, and the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach.
This past weekend I got into a text argument with a friend I have known for 20 years. My friend was being hurtful through texts for no reason, and this wasn't the first time she had done this. Many reasons could be why my friend acted and acts this way, maybe the lockdown? Maybe the fact that her Gram is in the hospital....? I avoided maner in which she would be hurtful in the past when she had done this, however this time I decided to respond. My response however was through text (as our conversations all seem to go this route) nevertheless I was doing my best to respond in a direct and caring way, in a sense I was trying to avoid a quarrel. This however, fell on deaf ears it seems, as there has not been any sort of communication back from her.
As a young adult I know I would get into arguments with mom, and I know that these arguments could have been avoided if I tried to respond in a caring way. Mom at times would get upset and not speak with me for days, but at some point mom would come back and speak to me. This was mom forgiving me.
Since we are Christians we must recognize people who want to quarrel with us, though we may respond it may be better not to respond to avoid quarrelsome situations. Regardless it is important to remember that if we respond or not the manner should always be in our hearts to be kind (Ephesians 4:32).

Week 326
John 16:32-33
32 “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
As our world seems to be changing a lot due to this virus outbreak, I started seeing many people panicking more and more as this is understandable. There is this fear of the unknown happening right now on a global scale. From jobs, to the economy, to life in general everyone is affected. In tonight's verse we see Jesus before being taken as a prisoner tells His disciples that they will all leave Him, yet He is not a lone for God is with Him. Jesus then goes on to comfort His disciples stating that in this world there will be problems but to remember that He is the hope of the world.
At times like these I think of my mom and wonder what mom's reaction might be. I feel assured that mom would be cautious, be careful, yet not be fearful. I can say this because I remember many times as mom was sitting on mom's couch before mom left this life, how much peace in the middle of mom's storm, mom had. Bottom line mom would not be fearful because mom did mom's best to live as a follower of Jesus.
Being a Christian over the years has taught me that God always takes care of us. It may not be the way and in the time we see fit, but God provides. As Christians we can remember Jesus' words especially during these times that we are not alone God is with us (John 16:32). Though Jesus was talking to His disciples those words and truths are for us today. In fact when Jesus left us He sent the Holy Spirit to reveal these truths to us (John 14:16-18).
Today as believers we always need to remember not to fear we should be cautious but fear will produces something in us that may make us into people who are not followers of Christ. God does not provide fear (2 Timothy 1:7). Whether things get better or worse, we should remember that Christ is our hope and in blink we will be with Him. Trust in the Lord and remember you are never a lone. Give your life to HIM.

Week 327
Proverbs 18:24
24 One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
During the times we are in where we are required to stay in less physical contact with others, people seem to be getting unruly and restless. It seems more and more people are taking their frustrations out on others and getting upset rather easily. It's easy for people to feel hopeless at times as friends and families as well seem to take out their frustration out on others.
In tonight's verse we read in the pages of Proverbs written by King Solomon a very simple yet profound verse: Friends who are unreliable for a person who has them will come to ruins but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Reading some of the commentaries on this verse, some seem to agree that this friend is Jesus.
I remember on a special day that my told me, as mom was ironing my clothes, mom told me "Remember your mom is your best friend". That touched my heart and meant so much to me, it is something I carry with me always. Many times I have longed for that special friend who could say this to me. However even some of my close friends I would say "fail" me.
The truth is as Christians we will never find that special friend who will be all that Jesus is for us. He is closer than any parent, any sibling, He is the closest we will ever have as a forever friend. Jesus died for us and will always be there for us no matter what. This can only be true for Christians those who follow Christ. Today place your trust in Him, your best friend.

Week 328
Revelation 1:7-8
“Look, he is coming with the clouds,”[b]
and “every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him”;
and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.”
So shall it be! Amen.
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
I woke up this morning to again more news about how the world is in "trouble" because of this food shortage caused by this current pandemic. Then I read in my morning devotional about trusting in Jesus and the verse for tonight was cited. The verse was a revelation given to John while he was exiled on the Island of Patmos. Imagine John on the Island perhaps in despair and maybe feeling lonely and hopeless, John saw a vision of Jesus, as the verse shows Jesus returning coming down on the clouds. This could have served as great encouragement for John and yet it is for us.
As I read the verse I am encouraged as it shows pure power, pure might and the image is Jesus rescuing His people however this time, not by sacrifice, but by sheer power and might and this gives me peace. As I think back at mom and recall some of things mom said before mom left this life, I am reminded that mom saw not only power, and might but peace when mom thought of being with Jesus.
We are Christians today as we hear the troubling news, and how things are getting rougher, recall the verse above from Revelation 1:7-8. The verse shows that Jesus has not forgotten us, He is with us, He will bring His power, might to rescue us and we will have peace. Look toward Christ more and more during this time, and if you have not give your life to Him.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 329
Philippians 4:6
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
One of the things I was thinking about today was about praying through our trials. Recently I felt a flood of emotions that would overtake me, including temptation right then and there I started praying. In tonight's verse we encounter Paul preaching to the Church in Philippi. Paul is telling the Philippians to not to not be anxious about anything but in every situation with prayer, petition with thanksgiving to present your requests to God, to go to Him in prayer.
Many times I have said it here before, that my mom always encouraged me to pray about everything. Even so mom would tell me that mom was also praying for me. Mom knew that perhaps with whatever situation I was or will face though mom may not be able to assist in one regard that mom knew who could.
Today we all face life changing situations, the experts in the world have no idea when this pandemic will be over. However, we as Christians know who does. God is in control and no matter what you are facing do not neglect going to God through Jesus in prayer and make your requests known to God (though He already knows) do this with a thankful heart. He will answer you though it may or may not be in the way you see fit, pray that His desires become yours.
If have not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, by placing your complete trust in Him, start today.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.
