Week 497
John 16:13
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
The Truth
I have been inspired over the last few weeks through my daily devotions. One thing late that has been coming up is "The Truth". As I think through this it reminded me of a friend I spoke to last week. I was letting her know that no matter what it is better to tell the truth than not to. In speaking this I self-reflect on The Holy Spirit's leading. In tonight's verse, we come to John 6:13, as Jesus spoke:
"13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come."
When I was younger my mom always looked at me as someone who told the truth. I'm not trying to boast but this is something that I tried to always do, and though I do I am not perfect in it. However, I try.
God gives every believer the Holy Spirit who serves us as a guide, His guidance guides us to Jesus and reveals the truth about Him. Much so The Holy Spirit also guides us through our consciousness (Romans 9:1) to what is true and living truthful.
As Christians, we should always remember we are not perfect, but it is The Holy Spirit who guides us in life, and we seek Jesus through the Holy Spirit. The truth is a part of every believer, He is Jesus, and it is of utmost importance that we follow Him in truth and walk that way in our lives. Today if you feel led to the truth about Jesus, do not ignore this, as well as the way to live (2 Timothy 2:11-13)
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Week 498
John 1:1-5
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
The Light
This week I started year 7 of BSF (Bible Study Fellowship). This year we are studying the book of John. The verse we started with was John 1:1-5 Jesus becoming the flesh. It's important to note this as this verse teaches us who Jesus is. In tonight's verse, we come to John 1:1-5:
"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
When I was growing up we lived in a neighborhood that was hard, not so hard as mom protected us by keeping us home, but the thing that mom taught us was to be a follower of Jesus. We weren't always readily to say that we were followers of Christ but Mom taught us. Mom was essentially teaching us to follow the Light of Jesus Christ and to be the lights of the world.
In our world today we see many negative things that can drag us down and hinder us from reaching our potential for Jesus. For me growing up was hard when I look back at it today. For me today I see many negative influences around me that hurt and bruise me, for example, with work and people I interact with. However, it is important as Christians to stand firm in the face of the darkness to be the light as Jesus is the Light. By standing firm no matter the darkness we promote Christ and there is nothing better in life than Jesus' name being lifted up.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Week 499
John 1:23
23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.
Our Passion
This week I have been pondering what my calling in life is when someone seemed to have asked me what I am passionate about. Well, I like to work out, and eat healthy, I work in Cybersecurity, and I enjoy teaching as well, though these are my interests I would not call any of them my passion. My passion and a Christian's highest calling comes from Matthew 28:16-20 (The Great Commission) and that is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world.
In tonight's verse, we come to John 1:23 (speaking is John the Baptist):
"23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord."
One of the main things I bring up is that Jesus is the only way to eternal life. However, knowing Jesus was taught to me by my mom through the power of the Holy Spirit. In the verse above John is making the statement that he is the one who speaks about Jesus. Essentially John is talking about Jesus Christ the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29)
As Christians we must follow suit, our purpose in life is to tell the message of Jesus Christ. How we do it may differ but it is our calling and it is our passion.

Week 500
John 1:46
46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.
“Come and see,” said Philip.
Interruptions
I recall about 20 years ago I was going to school on a Saturday morning to find a quiet place to study in my favorite building the Science Library. It was a nice library and I had been working all week at school and at a part-time job I had. I was excited to be able to spend some quality time studying. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 1:46 where we encounter a skeptic:
" “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.
“Come and see,” said Philip. "
You see verses before this Philip was called by Jesus (John 1:43), as Jesus told Philip to "follow me". Philip followed and not only this went to tell Nathanael. Nathanael replied with skepticism until he met Jesus. Jesus showed Nathanael who He was and Nathanael believed (John 1:47-50).
When I went to school that day my time was interrupted by a person who was asking for food, water, and money. I was deeply annoyed as all I wanted to do was study, but I could not let this person be, I had to help. I realized after he told me that he was a refugee that I had a lot of fear in helping this person. I even left this person and went home and asked my mom what I should do who then asked me to talk to the pastor. I went back to school, found this person, and helped him.
In our daily lives, we have plans, sometimes God will interrupt our plans so that we can show others Him. When this happens our first instinct might be to get upset or annoyed like I did. If we take a moment to pause and remember everything is coming from God, we will be reminded that it is His will not ours.

Week 501
John 2:23-25
23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.
True Worship
I come across many people in life and as I get to know them one thing I try to find out is if they are true followers of Jesus. Many people answer the question that they are believers and honestly I tend to believe them. However, a deeper talk with them, reveals sometimes the opposite. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 2:23-25:
"23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person."
My mom always taught us about Jesus, from the times I can remember. I will always remember the Bible studies we had and the songs we would sing. As I got older I would say that my faith was steady until I saw the film The Passion of Christ in 2004. Seeing that film changed me and helped me to understand truly who Christ was not just on the surface but on a deeper level, as I was committing my life to Him in a more conscious way.
In the verse above though the people saw Jesus' signs He was performing, but they did not truly believe. This non-belief is evident in verse 25 and is the way many people may view Jesus today. Many people may know Him, but when pressed deeper it may reveal they do not truly know Him.
So what is true worship? Jesus tells us in John 4:24 that "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.". Further along this James 1:27 tells us that "27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.". As well as John 13:35 where Jesus tells us in how we love others will show whether we are His followers or not. Let these verses be a mirror for all of us.

Week 502
John 4:13-14
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Living Water
Water is said to be the elixir of life. Without water, life on Earth could not survive, water is refreshing and rejuvenates us. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 4:13-15:
"13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
It was an Easter Sunday years ago I remember this day very well. My mom as usual would make a special meal for us, this meal was an Indian dish known as Biryani. It uses Basmati rice, fully ground, ginger, garlic, onions, and coriander, made into a paste, and cucumber seeds, and cinnamon sticks, added. These ingredients all added to the flavor but because of this, the Biryani would always be very dry. So to add some moisture to it Mom would make Chutney which is yogurt with chopped onions, tomatoes, coriander, and pepper. All this added to the experience of having Biryani on a special occasion in this case Easter Sunday. Well, I remember after Mom made it we all sat down and watched the Ten Commandments with Charleston Heston.
Later that evening something odd happened to me. I was very thirsty and wanted water, however not only did I want one cup I wanted many cups of water. I remember going to the sink to get water over and over, as the Biryani made me very thirsty and I needed water to quench it.
In the above passage, Jesus is talking to the woman at the well, telling her that He has water that if drank she (us) would never go thirsty. However, this water isn't one to meet our human needs but to meet the needs of our Spiritual heart. You see this water is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who quenches our thirst in life and meets our needs.
As Christians, we must talk to others about this Living Water, our physical beings will pass from this life, but what remains, is if we have accepted Jesus as the Living Water, our eternal lives. Are you living today fulfilling your physical needs, but have neglected your spiritual needs, remember there is a difference one is temporary and the other is eternal.

John 4:35
35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
Failure Perks
A few days ago I had to give a presentation virtually and on camera, while it was being recorded to be presented for a certification. I had to invite several people to volunteer their time to be part of this presentation. I thought I had everything ready, well every volunteer showed up and seemed ready to go. However one person showed up a bit late, almost 30 minutes, and on top of that, this person could not get his mic to work. Nevertheless, the show must go on as they say. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 4:35:
35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
Here in this verse Jesus is speaking and stating that always, not just at a future point in time, right now the fields are ripe to tell others about Christ. This telling does not always have to be with words but also with our actions
In the situation described above, I was getting very frustrated, as I was taking up people's volunteer time, as well the presentation was being recorded and there were problems with the recording. To make matters worse, what should have been 30 minutes turned into 2 hours. One of my friends became very frustrated with that when we got off the presentation call she expressed her frustration.
As a Christian, I failed here. Now I am not speaking about the presentation itself, but my reaction to it all. Here was an opportunity for me to show others Christ by the way I responded, and I did not I was visibly frustrated and I also expressed it to my friend who called me after the call and expressed herself to me.
Growing up many times my mom taught me to know Jesus. In every situation, my mom taught me to stay calm. However, until now I as an adult do I really understand that the impact we have on others can determine whether they know or do not know Jesus.
With failure comes perks. As Christians when we fail we can pause and seek Christ and ask Him how to rectify a situation after the fact. Apologizing and practicing staying calm as we represent Christ is of the utmost importance. As we put this into continued practice we will be effective in showing others Christ.

John 5:33-35
33 “You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. 34 Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. 35 John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.
Why We Need Evidence
One of the biggest things with me as I grow closer to Christ is presenting the Gospel to all people. There was a time when I was speaking with a friend about Jesus and I wanted her to know Him. She seemed to point to science for everything and reasoned that it was correct a source of truth. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 5:33-35:
33 “You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. 34 Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. 35 John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.
When I was younger we could hardly get away with things. For example when I would break something my mom would find it and by seeing the evidence and asking mom's kids mom would instantly know that I was the one who did the breaking. Even as an adult, I recall I started drinking coffee and liked using mom's coffee mate. I remember one night I was studying in my room, and mom brought the coffee mate bottle up to my room and asked "What is this..." because I almost used all of it.
In the verse tonight Jesus is speaking of Himself letting the people know that they believe because they need evidence from human understanding to believe. However, Jesus states in later verses that God, Himself testifies about Him (Matthew 3:17). Yet Jesus knows that as humans we require evidence to believe (to be saved). My friend that I spoke about earlier needed evidence to believe, the evidence for her was in the science. I started studying more about science so that I might show her and that she might be saved.
As a people, we need evidence to convince us that something is true. Jesus obliges and shows that to us through human testimony in this case John the Baptist. As Christians when we encounter people who are requesting some sort of evidence to believe in Jesus, think and pray and ask God to show us how to present the Gospel where they are. By doing so you help answer people's questions and perhaps by the grace of the Lord, lead that person(s) to Jesus. One way I do this is by using God's second book, which is not really a book but the world around us (Psalm 19).

Week 505
John 5:6
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
Getting Well
I recently have been thinking about sin, and how it affects our lives, to us we may only be able to fathom the way God sees our sins. Nevertheless, we are to take them very seriously.
In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 5:6, where we see Jesus speaking:
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
We all do things that are wrong, or disobedient. When I was younger when I would be disobedient to my mom I would get punished for it. As I was punished I realized that I shouldn't have done what I did. When I was punished by my mom I would feel why am I being singled out. But the truth is that is because I was the one who did the wrong.
The context of the above verse is that Jesus saw this man lying there at the pool of Bethesda where other people were also "a great number of disabled people". Yet amongst this number, Jesus saw this one man lying there and Jesus chose to heal him.
A question that came up was why was this man singled out by Jesus? I think there is a deeper meaning as I continue to study this passage. The answer I came to is because this man was caught in some sort of sin that we are not told what that is. We see a case for this when in John 5:14-15 the verse shows this:
"14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well."
This man was now a testimony for the Lord.
Getting well doesn't always mean healing for our physical bodies as the true depravity of a person is sin. As I mentioned above it's hard to truly see how God views sin. One analogy I learned from Pastor David TenClay is that our sin is like garbage in a garbage can outside on a hot summer day.
As Christians, we must take our sins seriously as seriously as God, Himself chose to step in our place to pay the price - death - for our disobedience. By doing so we get well, from our sins. Does this include our physical healing? Yes and No. We must understand that it is the Lord who makes us well, and this may or may not include our physical bodies, but what it does 100% mean is when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are healed from our worst - which is sin.
