Week 515
John 13:37-38
37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!
Perseverance and Hope
I often think of myself as someone who is a strong Christian and follows the Lord. Then at times, I question this, it's in these moments that I feel a bit ashamed of myself. In tonight's verse, we encounter Jesus and Peter, in John 13:37-38:
37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!
One of the things Mom taught me is that God is always watching me. I think Mom did this to involve a disciplined nature and character and to help me understand that even when Mom is not there, God is always there. These words from Mom echo even to this day when Mom is no longer here.
As I read these verses I look and think that's me. I would say well I stand for the Lord, then in the subsequent verses we read that Peter does deny that he knows Jesus (John 18:15-26). I think about how many times, or opportunities have come around where do not show God's love to others, or I have an opportunity to pray and I don't for fear of ridicule.
The thing is though that Jesus knows our heart and He knows who we are to Him. When you feel you failed the Lord, count these as times to learn to persevere for Him and place your hope in Him evermore. Trust that the Lord knows you, as later in the Jesus reinstates Peter (John 21:15) and Peter later would die for Jesus. We should note that yes we have to deny Him in a circumstance or situation but know that our hope is in Him, and we are to persevere through all those times.
Love you Mom, and I love you, Lord.

Week 516
John 14:15-17
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
Spirit Of Truth
Sometimes as I go through the day I pause and think before I act, am I hearing from God correctly in a particular situation? In tonight's verse, we come to John 14:15-17:
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
I recall at a point in my life when I left home, I moved to a different state. When I was there I felt a little alone at times, and I would call Mom and let my mom how I was doing. There came a point where I had a job offer and I was not sure what to do as I did not want to take that particular job. I asked Mom and others, and finally, I decided to take it, after I took it I shortly wanted to quit. However, I felt guided into seeing things differently and I attribute this to the Holy Spirit guiding me.
When Jesus was preparing to leave His disciples He promised them that if they loved Him and kept His commandments, He would send the Holy Spirit to guide them. This promise is also for believers today, as we live this life, we must understand as Christians we are guided, in all areas of our lives, and the Holy Spirit serves as a guide in revealing the truth about God to us.
In life when you come to decisions, trust that the truth will be revealed to you as you are guided by the Holy Spirit, by revealing the truth of God we learn His will and follow even at times when it does not make sense or when we don't want to do something.
Love you Mom, and I love you, Lord.

John 15:5-8
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
Remain In Christ
As a Christian, it's hard at times to stay on the course of Christ. One of the things is following Christ in every area of life. Many times I find myself aggravated with work and other things in life. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of John 15:5-8, Jesus speaks:
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
When I was growing up my mom always had a plan that plan was simple to take care of us kids. My mom had essentially no help, to do this but I can tell mom was trying mom's best to remain in Christ. So what does this mean? Mom lived life for Christ, Mom would dedicate time in prayer to having a place to go, and Mom would read Mom's Bible daily.
Many of us live life and we encounter trials of many kinds. During these trials, we can remain in Christ and keep our focus on Him.

Week 518
John 16:1-2
All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.
The Potential To Fall Away
One of the obstacles that I face in life as a Christian is trying to ensure that I always walk in a manner that honors Jesus. I find myself failing at this many times in my line of work. When my failures occur I wonder if I am representing God, and it tends to make me feel that I am not good enough. In tonight's verse, we come to John 16:1-2:
"All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God."
When I was growing up my mom would go to Church, and read mom's Bible, but because of mom's situation, the Church at times treated us in not always the most respectable light. I know this troubled my mom and as such mom at times would feel hurt and upset. This eventually caused us to leave the Church. Mom did mom's best to stay the course as best as mom could.
This type of event, even when it's the Church has the potential to cause Christians to fall away. Even when there is failure on my end I tend to wonder "Am I a follower of Jesus?"
In the above verse, we see and understand that Jesus tells us these things so in fact we will not fall away. Eventually, Mom returned to a Church and worshipped God in that environment.
It's important as Christians to know that things like mom's experience, and my experiences will happen but the most important thing to remember is that Jesus uses the Holy Spirit to help guide us in these matters, rely on His leading (John 16:7-11) and the potential to fall away will slowly diminish.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Week 519
John 17:8-10
For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.
Glorifying Jesus
Today I seem to be having a bad day. Things slowly seem to be compounding hourly and I am trying to move forward fast to stay on top of things. Even and especially in times like this, we have to remember that glorifying Jesus is of utmost importance.
In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 17:8-10
For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.
Here we see Jesus praying to God about what is about to take place. Specifically, Jesus is talking to God the Father about the disciples. Jesus outlines that the disciples believed in Jesus and this includes all that He has said. By this they glorify Jesus.
Being younger in my days I recall that my mom had a quiet spirit about mom at times, though this quiet spirit was not always there, my mom developed. I think this quiet spirit. This development came from a trusting relationship Mom had with Jesus. This trust relationship was about knowing that no matter what happened Jesus would take care of it and to see things through His eyes.
Having a bad today, I am tempted to get upset as things are piling on, however, I am realizing that trusting Christ in the midst of this means trusting all that He has said, done, and will do. This reminder comes through the Holy Spirit who Jesus refers to as the Advocate. The Advocate reminds us of all that Jesus has taught us just as He did for the disciples (John 14:26). It is through this that we bring glory to Jesus in every and all circumstances.
Today as Christians we must try to remember this, that is to glorify Jesus in all that we do, by trusting and obeying Him.

Week 520
John 18:5
5 “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.
“I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
Glorifying Jesus
How Powerful Is Our God
Last week I mentioned I faced something that I didn't think I would ever face, for basic reasons, I'll refrain from being specific about it, but I'll explain another time. The problem I am facing is not life-threatening. Well, I am still facing that issue. One of the big things I am learning is that no matter what we face our God is there no matter what it is and He will help in His way. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 18:5:
“Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.
“I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
Glorifying Jesus"
I always remember how my mom took care of us, and as I got older that care never stopped. A simple thing my mom told me was to "Pray to God". This is something I tend to forget. The way we face issues does not always involve getting down on our knees, but putting our trust in God as we are facing problems, and listening to hear from Him. This morning the problem I was continuing to face caused a big frustrating issue, I spent an hour trying to figure it out but still to no avail.
As I faced this issue all I could hear was a leading to take a break. So I did, as I did I didn't stop thinking but the problem became a little more clear. When I returned, I realized the problem and solved it (though there are still more). Praise God.
You see in this verse how powerful our God is. Jesus simply identifying Himself to His seemingly powerful captures caused them to fall literally.
Our God is powerful, no matter how strong some problems may appear, we can trust that God knows, and He will help us, just listen for His leading.
Love you Mom, and I love you, Lord.

John 18:37
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
Truth Experiences
As I continue down the path of figuring out a few issues I am facing, the Word of God, Jesus is being revealed to me about what is truth. This is accomplished through the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus calls the Spirit of Truth, The Advocate. Who reveals all things that Jesus teaches us. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 18:37. A bit of context. Here we see Jesus standing in Pilate's palace, as he questions Jesus. Pilate asks Jesus "...are you a king?". Jesus responds, by stating: "36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” Pilate then responds "You are a king then!". Then:
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
When I was younger Mom always wanted me to be truthful, being truthful I found removed any kind of guilt. You see this is an important concept, The Holy Spirit guides us and reveals the truth. To apply this to my current situation I realized that the truth is the reason I face issues today I did not take the necessary precautions though I felt that I was supposed to on many occasions.
In your current circumstances facing an issue or not, ask yourself truthfully. Are there issues that you are facing that are caused by you? Were you nudged to do something but failed to? The Holy Spirit guides us in life, and if we are nudged and ignored, then the problem we face may be our inaction.
Today every issue, you face ask the Lord what can learn from this experience.

Week 522
John 19:21
21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”
Jesus Our King
Many times in life we face issues and encounter circumstances in our lives that seem so insurmountable. I know as I have been mentioning the last few weeks of issues I have been facing have taken a toll on me. They seem so insurmountable but trusting in Jesus our King is of the utmost importance, especially during these times. Let's explore what this means tonight. Our verse comes from John 19:21:
21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”
You see in the above verses Jesus before being crucified, Pilate (the person who sentenced Jesus) put a message on the cross that read "Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the Jews." (John 19:19). When the Chief priests saw this message they exclaimed to not write this, but that this man claimed to be so. All I ever remember about Jesus as I was growing up was that my mom would always hold Him in reverence and taught me in many different ways who He is. My mom always said, "God is watching you". This created a sense of accountability in me, knowing that no matter what I was accountable to Him.
Ultimately as I review this I understand that Jesus is the Lord of my life, He is the King of my life, and this means that I trust Him, in everything and all that I do. You see when someone is your leader, and I mean truly your leader, you trust that person, to the point where, wherever that person leads you will go. Kids experience this with their parents, although this changes as they grow older.
The chief priests missed making Jesus the King of their lives, as Christians today, we can learn from their faults. We can truly make Jesus our King. We do this by choosing to place our trust in Him for the forgiveness of our sins and trust in every aspect. This includes when things are not going so well, and when things are, we can choose to remember that despite all that goes on our King, our Leader, knows, and trusts Him to help us through every and all situations and circumstances, especially when they seem insurmountable. This answer help is given to us through the Holy Spirit who serves as our Advocate, the Spirit of truth that reveals Jesus to us.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Home with our King.

Week 523
John 19:34-35
34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. 35 The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.
Knowing The Bible Intimately
Have you ever looked at your circumstance and thought, you were doing the right thing but only come to know that it was not? I have, there's been many times when I am doing something that feels right, and then suddenly I conclude, that what I was doing was wrong. In tonight's verse, we see this, in John 19:34-35:
34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. 35 The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.
When I was younger I recall that mom told me not to use the phone without asking. When a certain situation came up and I wanted to use the phone, but I did not ask, Mom was upset with me. I thought, however, that at the time what I was doing was correct. Come to know later that it wasn't.
In the scripture verse tonight we see a soldier piercing Jesus' side after, Jesus gave up His spirit, to confirm that Jesus was dead. When the soldier did this he saw a sudden flow of blood and water coming out, which resulted in the soldier being saved. I often wondered how this act alone and the result saved him. Well, the important part is knowing the Word of God intimately. In Zecharaiah 13:1 it reads “On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.". From my understanding the soldier would have been intimately familiar with God's word and perhaps knew Zechariah 13:1. Based on this the soldier would have concluded that Jesus was drawing from this understanding.
As Christians, we are to know Jesus intimately, by knowing the Bible intimately. As the soldier appeared to have, he realized that the crucifixion of Christ was crucifying God Himself. Today, and always get intimately familiar with Jesus by knowing the Bible initially.
