Weekly Verse and Song for Tonight Weeks 188 -196
August 23, 2017
Week 188
Psalm 28:7-8
7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. 8 The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
In tonight's verse the Psalmist is writing about how God is everything to him. One of the keys in this passage is the understanding that "my heart trusts in Him". It is key because it lets the reader know that a believer must put his/her's trust in God, and the Psalmist continues by stating "and He helps me".
In this life my mom taught me to always pray to God, even as an adult mom always told me "to pray to God". The values my was instilling in me was one to trust in God and He helps me through life. I know mom as I got older didn't know and couldn't know how to help me in various trials, job lost, marriage issues, school problems, etc. but mom knew who had the answer and mom would encourage me to seek God.
Mom not only instilled this but Mom also prayed for me. I could remember many times I would see my mom as an adult and as a kid praying at the kitchen table, or in mom's "prayer corner". Also I recall as a college age man, when mom and I would attend Church mom would always stand up and ask the pastor (during prayer request time) "pray for me and my children".
I love you mom thank you for always instilling and for praying for me/us, and for us to always trust and know that God must be Everything. I love you Lord always and I trust you.
Home is the only place and there is no place like it.

Week 189:
Philippians 3:14
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Many times I feel like things are just too much, I may start something then feel like it's too much and may want to quit, Tonight's passage Paul is speaking to the Church in Philippi and using an analogy of pressing towards the goal. However the goal the prize is not a trophy, or a medal it is Jesus.
Tonight I was running on a treadmill about a minute into it I wanted to quit and just walk it. However I felt strong on not quitting and just continuing pressing forward, as if I quit here, where else in life would I quit. The most motivating factor for me is trying to honor Jesus in everything.
In my mom's life mom had times where mom was "running the race" raising mom's kids and trying the very best way mom knew how. Mom could have just given up, but mom pressed forward honoring Jesus.
In life, it's so important to know that God is with us, and that His strength alone sustains, and allows us to continue pressing forward, toward the prize of a growing relationship with Jesus.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.
Home with my Savior soon.

Week 190:
Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Sometimes in life we work so hard and it seems that we lose site of why we toil. Tonight's verse is a great reminder of how we as Christians should work. In life I have been through things that at times were hard, and at times were pleasant. However it is in both the hard and pleasant times to acknowledge The Lord. I made it a point this year and for the rest of my life to dedicate everything I do to the Lord, and to thank Him for everything.
By doing so it leads me to work hard to not let anyone say anything negative to me that will in turn reflect my Savior. As I do my normal work, I try hard and pray and ask the Lord for strength the accomplish the task at hand.
In my mom's life, mom had to raise us and though mom had so many hard days, my worked as if unto honoring Jesus. One year our washing machine broke and for a full year mom tried to save money to buy a new one, but we didn't have any "extra" money. I remember my mom would take all our dirty clothes every Saturday morning until Saturday night and wash them in the sink, with soap and water with mom's bare hands, wringing them dry and then placing them in the clothe dryer. Since the clothes were always so wet, the house would become so humid, and wet because the dryer had to work extra hard to dry the clothes. Sure mom could of chose a different route but mom worked as if unto the Lord to make sure we had clean clothes.
I love you mom thank you for working so hard for us to honor Jesus in the end. I love you Lord thank you Lord for giving my mom strength.
Home no place better

Week 191
John 10:27 - My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Tonight's verse and comes from the Book of John, where Jesus speaks and says that His people, His followers hear from Him, Jesus who is the Shepherd, and follow Him, and Jesus knows His sheep.
Sheep hear the voice of their Master and when he calls they follow. As Christians we are called to follow Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. In this life many things sound great and promising but in the end if we follow anything other than Jesus, we are bound to wind up in disastrous situations.
I been asked often how did I come to know The Lord. I always respond with this:
"When I was young my mom introduced me to Jesus, there was never a time that I didn't know Him. However when I saw the movie the Passion of Christ in 2003 that's when my heart was turned over to Christ ever more, as I truly understood what He did for me. There was never a time that I did not know the Lord, but just like any good relationship, as time goes on I knew Jesus more."
That's my answer my mom introduced me to Christ and I followed Him, but as I grew older I followed Him closer. We as Christians will know the Lord, as time goes on however we should know Him more, and follow Him, even closer. Is your relationship with Jesus getting closer?
I love you mom thank you for introducing me to Jesus, I love you Lord.
Home with Jesus soon.

Week 192
Luke 9:23
Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
In life sometimes we have priorities. Someone asked me today am I living life, and I responded with this: Before I answer that question I must ask you a question, what is your definition of "living life"
Tonight's verse comes from Luke the ninth chapter verse 23, Jesus looked at the gathering of people around Him and said that if anyone wants to be my disciple they must deny themselves and follow Him.
My response to this person asking me this question was, for me life is Christ, so living life means to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28). Each of us must choose if we are Christians what does it mean to live life. If living life is anything other than a relationship with Jesus, and fulfilling what He asks us to do (this doesn't need to be with just words if can be how you live your life). Then the question of where our priorities are must be evaluated.
My mom raised 5 kids and taught them about Jesus, mom was fulfilling the Great Commission and lived life for Him.
I love you mom, I love you Jesus.

Week 193
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
Monday marked (September 25, 2017) 4 years where my mom went home to be with Jesus. For me as times goes on it gets better, though at times especially at night it can be hard. I recall after mom passed how much anger I had toward God, how empty and lonely I felt. I just could not believe my mom was no longer on Earth. Though I was angry with God I knew in my heart deep in my heart that the Father knew what I was going through and He provided me with a Grief Share group to join, and to be honest it wasn't just one there were 4 that I attended every day of the week except Wenesday. It was there I found some comfort and things started to make sense. Additionally and more importantly the verse above was very comforting. It tells us that we as Christians should not grieve like others who do not know Jesus. It tells us that soon, that we will meet our loved ones again , and that death is not the final answer, and it tells most importantly that our hope is in Jesus, and He is who will spend eternity with.
For you who know Jesus, remember always that this is not our home, as it is temporary, and if you lost a love one know that death is not the final answer.
I love you mom, I know I'll see you again and until then, I will work as hard as I can to accomplish the will of Jesus and know that your hard work wasn't wasted on me. I love you Jesus, I look forward to the day of eternity.
Home is eternal.

Psalm 94:20-23
20 Can a corrupt throne be allied with you— a throne that brings on misery by its decrees? 21 The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. 22 But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. 23 He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them.
Many times in life it seems we struggle with many things, tonight I specifically want to talk about those who harm you. Growing up I had a lot of oppositions and would tend to be made fun of. However one of the valuable lessons I learned in life was to not always fight back, but to be still and let the Lord.
I recall my mom being the protector growing up would take exception to anyone causing problems for mom's kids. One day mom scolded a neighborhood kid for something he was doing. Well when that kid went home and told his mom, his mom came out cursing and hollering and saying things outside of our home, mom was trying to stay calm and even came down stairs and sat on the couch. I recall the neighbor's mom peering into our home and seeing mom sitting there and hurling insults upon insults to mom. I was not sure what mom was going to do. Mom got up walked over to the back door (where the lady was screaming) and mom calmly asked her to come over. When she came over mom explained the situation as to why mom scolded her son, and it completely diffused the situation.
Mom handled it in a Godly manner, mom took refuge in the Lord.
I love you mom, and I love you Lord.

Proverbs 3:4-6 4
Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Sometimes I feel that no matter how hard I try adversity comes. Tonight we look at Proverbs to find understanding about adversity. If you are like me you have, and you may currently be experiencing adversity. In times when things seem so impossible, that it seems you can't overcome the Bible tells us to Trust in the LORD and to not lean on what we know, to continue looking toward Jesus.
It is in God that we have peace and find it. Not in things of this world, so must be continuously looking toward Christ. My mom in mom's life went through a lot. Living a lone in America and raising 4 kids on food stamps and child support was no easy task. We couldn't have the same things other kids had, such as the Nike's, Reeboks, and other material items. However mom raised us and made us feel important, and I know it broke mom's heart that we couldn't do all that other kids could but mom taught us about Jesus, and this is the truth that lasts forever. Mom overcame adversity and took care of us, though mom may not have understood why, things were hard, mom looked toward the Cross. I could still hear mom tell me "God is with you..."
Today we should always look toward Jesus look toward the cross and when adversity comes to remember and say it to ourselves and to our loved ones, "God is with you..."

Proverbs 19:21 21 Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.
Today I received some hard news from my sister. The news was not pleasant at all, in fact it was something that can fill a person with turmoil. Tonight we will talk about the verse about our plans, and end with a worship song that tells us that Jesus always remains.
The verse above tells us that we make our plans, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails. At first glance it seems we can all make plans but to no avail, God will change our plans to what He wants. I believe this is a misinterpretation of the verse. God knows the plans, and we as Christians must align our plans with our Creator by seeking Him. However, what this verse talks about is for example though we may want something so bad or at least we think we do God knows the better ways.
After hearing the news from my sister, I was sad, shocked and confused, and I know my sister was going through a lot. I always try to remember The Lord, then this tends to turn my attention to my mom and things mom experienced in this life. It draws me closer to understanding what mom has been through.
It seems life is hard at times, and can be happy at times, but no matter what times it is, I know how important it is to understand that it's the Lord's purpose that prevails.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.
