Week 456
1 Samuel 30:6
6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
Where Do You Find Your Purpose
I'm big into working out and exercising. I think through being disciplined in this area it can affect other areas of your life, it is something I enjoy doing. The one thing that I learned over the years is that whether it is working out and exercising, studying, working, or spending time with friends and family, whatever it might be that I don't find my strength or purpose in any of those things.
In tonight's verse we come to 1 Samuel 30:6:
6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
When I was younger mom had no time, for mom's self, mom raised 4 kids, and did everything like cook, clean, go shopping, pay bills, etc. I might say that it would be easy for a mom to find that being a mom's purpose in life. The thing is mom found mom's purpose in honoring the Lord by taking care of what mom was given by God, and by God's grace.
In this verse, we find that despite everything going on David found his strength in God.
Most of us live busy lives, and with things going on this time of the year, it especially may be easy to find purpose and meaning, in work, relationships, family, etc. However, we as Christians must be prudent and remind ourselves that our purpose is in honoring God, by taking care of what we have been given by Him.
Today ask yourself, in everything I am doing, is my purpose in that or is my purpose in honoring God?
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.
Home with the One who gives us purpose.

Proverbs 13:4
The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
The Lord's Interruption
Recently I hurt my knee pretty bad, to the point where I need to get an MRI and see my Orthopedic Surgeon to see what is going on. Well in the days before me hurting my knee, I felt led by the Lord to take out a window Air Conditioner that I had set up for the summer season to help cool an area of the house. Well, my first thought was to let me wait until the end of the month because that's the plan. In tonight's verse we come to Proverbs 13:4:
"The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied."
When I read this verse it reminds me of putting things off, constantly until the point where you may not be able to do the work at hand. Growing up mom was diligent in getting things done, although I never really saw mom write things down on paper I would see mom write things down on a wall calendar to remind mom of what mom needs to do. Then the calendar would serve as a schedule for mom. However, this schedule would serve tentatively as things may interrupt it.
The truth is although we may have a schedule to do things, for example, I wanted to remove the Air Conditioner unit at the end of the month, however, I felt led by the Lord to do it now, though I still thought I should wait. In this case, I obeyed and removed the Air Conditioner unit and the very next day is when I hurt my knee. Now if I tried to do something like that I may not be able to do it, well. The Lord interrupted my schedule and I eventually obeyed as I look back that was the best thing that could have happened at the moment.
In our lives we make plans however the Lord may interrupt what we have planned, this can come in many ways through a gentle nudge from a friend, a means of feeling led to do something, etc. It is up to us to hear correctly from the Lord and to let Him change our plans. There's nothing better than doing what the Lord leads us to do.
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.

Week 458
John 15:14-15
You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
True Friends
Last week I wrote that I hurt my knee pretty bad well a few days later I found out what actually happened, and what the injury actually was. Needless to say, I need surgery. As I told a few new friends that I met this year, that I started getting close to one friend responded with frustration and stated she did not want to talk to me anymore.
In tonight's verse we come to John 15:14-15:
"You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you."
It's at times like these that I miss my mom even more. When I was growing up mom would always take care of me and when I got older I took care of mom. I remember even when I moved out of state I still checked on mom twice a day with a phone call. Once I could not reach mom all day by phone, the phone would not ring. So when it got later in the day I decided to send my sister to check on mom. When I did that my sister found that the router at home was "stuck". After it was rebooted the phone was working. I spoke with mom and my mom said "Thank you for sending your sister, I knew you would do that...". Right now I am reminded of those words. A true friend is always there for you. However, the one prominent thing in my mind is that Jesus watches over me and He is our true friend. I need not worry, though the friend I wrote about, left, at the right time, Jesus will send the help I need according to His plan. Just knowing this comforts and encourages me.
This also should comfort and encourage all Christians, as we know that no matter what we have a friend in Jesus who is closer to us than anyone (Proverbs 18:24). If you are down, lonely, or alone, remember Jesus is with you no matter what.
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.

Isaiah 32:8
But he who is noble plans noble things, and on noble things he stands.
Nobility
The surgery went well at least from what I know I won't know more until next Friday, so I have to have 2 weeks to try and let this heal. One of the things I concentrate on whenever something goes wrong is what God is trying to show me through all this. In the last few weeks, I started to see people for who they are on the inside, as I wrote the previous week people desertted me. This past week I started to continue to see people on the inside of their hearts. However, I realize is no matter what, in whatever condition to stand on noble things. In tonight's verse we come to Isaiah 32:8:
But he who is noble plans noble things and on noble things he stands.
One of the things I observed about mom was that mom always tried to carry mom's self respectfully, and nobly. I remember once when a neighbor was yelling at mom from the outside of the house how mom calmly waved her over, spoke to her calmly, and rectified the situation. The neighbor walked away agreeing with mom.
In the situation I found myself in I need help, I am by myself. I had some great help the first few days, however, this person got upset and left, which made me fend for myself. I did not handle myself days later when I spoke to this person nobly at first but the message was clear. A few hours later I explained myself in a slightly more noble way, and I believe this person understood.
The lives we live and the things we go through at times can be daunting, however, we must stand for Christ, in all situations, He is our noble savior and the one who is with us through it all.
Let's start the Christmas season early "Through Christmas comes once a year, Christmas is always coming..."

Mark 9:22-23
22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
Wavering Faith
Last week I wrote about nobility, this week something different started to creep into my mind, which I am trying to overcome and this something is my wavering faith. I am a very active person though I never really thought about this, it is true. I get up early as possible every day sometimes I am up for 16+ hours and I start by getting at the day through prayer and devotion, I then train, work, train again, and in between have meals, etc. Now I am laid up I cannot drive, or even throw the trash out. So with just a few things I am experiencing suddenly, my faith is wavering. In tonight's verse we come to Mark 9:22-23:
22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
Jesus was visiting a town where an "unclean" spirit entered a man's son, attacking the son. The disciples could not drive the spirit out, so they brought his son to Jesus who could remove the "unclean" spirit. Jesus when asked told His disciples that this kind of spirit could only be driven out through prayer (Mark 9:29).
When it came time for me to leave home, my mom had to live alone, and "fend" for mom's self, I am sure mom being limited had experienced many wavering faith battles, however mom through God was able to overcome this, by continually reminding mom's self of Jesus.
Now for myself, I experience a lot of wavering faith battles, and I was even tempted to stop my Bible Study, however, it is especially in our times of wavering faith like the man's son, that we must seek the Lord to help us to get through this time. It's normal, but that's when we need to cry out to the Lord as this man's son did.
Jesus will show up and protect and increase our faith, we just need to continually seek Him, especially in times when our faith is wavering. We need to be intentional about this, and ask Him as the boy's father did, to help us with our unbelief and He will uphold us.

Psalm 90:12
12 So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Priorities
Just this week after coming back from the doctor and learning I need to be in a brace for another four weeks or maybe longer, I was a bit down. However, I received a few encouraging words from friends, and needless to say, I was positioning myself for this news, which comes with other things like not driving, etc. Well with all that said I was ready to be down on myself consistently, however I felt led to prioritizing things.
In tonight's verse we come to the pages of Psalm 90:12:
12 So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Looking at some commentary about this verse, I see that a summary for Psalm 90 is this: "Our meaning in life comes not through what we do, but through the One for whom and through whom we do it
When I was growing up mom taught me always to get up and be strong, don't "lay there" and let things fall to the wayside, I remember mom encouraging me on this when I bought my first car that required monthly payments. I kept being worried to the point where it could have been debilitating. Even now with my injury I feel led that I should keep moving forward prioritizing the recovery so that I can be stronger.
In our lives, it's easy to get down, harder to stay up, in these things as Christians we are to remember "...for whom and through whom we do it", for who we live for and who we serve. God will be with us through every obstacle and carry us through it.

Hebrews 3:1
3 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.
When We Are Laid Up
These past few weeks I have been focusing my mind on the Lord, as I hear from Him for the future. After having surgery, I have been thinking about what is the Lord trying to show me.
In tonight's verse we come to Hebrews 3:1:
"3 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest."
Some of the things I recall from my mom was giving me advice when I needed it. However, there were times when mom did not know what advice to give me about a certain situation, however, mom knew what to do, pray. Mom would tell me "...I am praying for you" over a certain situation.
In times like I described where I am currently laid up, not able to work out, drive, etc. it creates a situation in my mind where I feel down. However, I know the right response is to ask the Lord, to seek Him, and even more, all this to know what is the Lord trying to show me in this current circumstance. The same is true for all of us who placed our trust in Jesus. Not only but especially when you are laid up, ask the Lord what is He trying to show you, and be mindful that the answer can come in many ways through reading God's word, through trusted friends and family, and even while sitting there watching a show. Trust that the Lord will have a greater purpose when you are laid up, seek Him, and seek the answer.

Week 463
Psalm 145:14
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
He Upholds Us
Being about a week and a half from seeing the doctor about my injury, I realize that I am slowly getting concerned about the healing process and if everything is going well. To a degree, this is causing me some anxiety and I woke up this morning feeling quite down.
In tonight's verse we come to Psalm 145:14:
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
One of the things I think of is my mom who suffered a lot of health issues for a very long time. My mom, however, found comfort in the Lord. Daily as much as I can remember mom could be seen praying just before having coffee, and the prayer wasn't just about the "food" mom was about to have but praying over mom's family. Mom found comfort in the Lord.
This morning as I read Psalm 145 for the morning devotion, verse 14 jumped out to me and comforted me. "The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down." it is important for all Christians to know we serve the Lord. This serving does not exclude us from suffering, from painful times, however, the Lord upholds us in everything and carries us through, we need to seek Him even when we don't feel like it. The Lord's Word does not change Psalm 145:14 tells us the Lord upholds the one who falls and lifts up the one who seeks Him. This Advent season continually seeks Him, in all things, and know He is there for you and will carry you through any and all obstacles (s).

Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
He Strengthens Us
Putting things into perspective is important for all of us. Last week I heard about a classmate who passed away. I told this to one of my friends and I stated that a lot of people seem to pass this time of year. My friend's response was that Christmas is a depressing time of the year.
In tonight's verse we come to Isaiah 41:10:
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
At first, what my friend said to me didn't 100% register with me because when I was growing up though we did not have a lot my mom always made this time of the year feel special. So much so that my sister really enjoys this time of the year a lot alongside me.
Thinking through what my friend told me I was thinking yes this is probably true that many people see this time of the year as hard. For example, this year for me it doesn't seem like Christmas and this is due to my injury, which I will find out more about this Friday. However, I can understand that it is a hard time of the year in regards to many people getting together with their family and friends, and to the many that don't. Also this time of the year here in the United States it gets darker faster.
For the many that do not find this time of the year joyous, perhaps you lost a loved one, it's always been sad, lack of friends and family, a job loss, or whatever it may be, I will offer this, think of Jesus. Remind yourself that Christmas is a time when the dark world (figuratively and literally), received the Light, that Light gives us hope, and that Light is Jesus. Every time you walk outside, or see something of Christmas, actively place your mind on this thought: "...Light has come into the world" (John 3:19) and remind yourself of tonight's verse, that we are not to fear as Christians because God is with us, He will strengthen you, help you and uphold you with His Righteous right hand. Doing so will put things into perspective and realize that no matter where you are, you have Hope.
