Weekly Verse and Song for Tonight Weeks 215 - 222
February 28, 2018
Week 215
Colossians 3:23
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the LORD, not for human masters
This week I was thinking about my niece. My sister sent some pictures of her and I can see how she is growing up, she seems very interested in the world, and seems to be progressing along quite well. When I look at her I think of my sister and her husband and how they are trying to raise their daughter the best way they.
This morning in relation to this I started thinking of my mom, and how my mom was alone in raising us, doing the best job mom can. I often wonder what if mom just said "this is too hard, raising four kids, being alone, I give up", I wonder where I would be today, Tonight's verse comes to mind as it is a reminder to me as having a Christian mom, that ultimately mom knew mom was raising us for the Lord.
So as I look out and think of my sister and her husband also being Christians, I know there is an inherent desire to raise their child, but this inherent ability comes ultimately from God, as they do it ultimately for God.
This verse doesn't apply strictly to Christian Parents, but when things are tough in this life I know though some of us who are not parents that the Bible commands us to do everything for the Lord.
I love you mom and I love you Lord

Week 216:
Luke 6:12 12. One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
I usually spend a lot of time alone, sometimes it's by choice and sometimes it is because I am very busy working, studying, training, etc. Nevertheless I tend to find myself on occasion wanting to talk to someone, if I do it's very simple for me. However, with that said I know that many times God uses these "lonely times" to draw us close to Him and to hear from Him.
In tonight's verse after Jesus healed a man with a withered hand, He went to a remote place to pray. Not only did Jesus go to this remote place to pray but He spent all night praying. It was perhaps at these times that He heard clearly from His heavenly Father. We can understand this because shortly thereafter Jesus called the Twelve Disciples.
As I spend these lonely times, I understand that God uses times like these to have us hear from Him especially. My mom spent many days alone after we all grew up and what I noticed about mom was that mom had a quiet demeanor and more peace despite all the health issues Mom endured. I believe my Mom was drawing closer to the Lord during these and hearing from God, through prayer and throughout the day.
When I speak on hearing, I need to make it clear that I am not stating as a literal voice but of leading of the Holy Spirit for direction, and instructions, and to know this, one needs to compare what is "heard" with scriptures.
Today if you have been spending a lot of time a lone, whether married, single, etc use it to seek God's lead through prayer and as you go about your day. Your a lone time is not a coincidence,
I love you Mom and I love you Lord.
Home a lone with Christ.

Week 217:
John 14:6 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Today we hear about the passing of Stephen Hawking, the famed Theoretical Physicist, who made many contributions to the field of Science specifically about the Universe. I must admit upon hearing this news to be a little sad. The main reason for this is because Hawking was not a believer in Jesus. Hawking was quoted by stating that Heaven is a 'fairy tale'. As many times I've heard and read information about Hawking I always hoped that he would come to know the Lord.
In tonight's verse, Jesus is speaking to His disciples, telling them that they know the place where He is going, Thomas answered and said that they don't understand. Jesus further confirmed this and stated that He is the way to the Father, to eternity. When we look out into the Universe and study how the Universe works as far as we understand it today we also see that the Bible spoke on these topics before we ever discovered, lending to the credibility of Scriptures. We as Christians know the truth by evidence of God's handy work as we match that up with what Scriptures reveal.
Today my mom and others who are followers of Christ know the truths that come from knowing Jesus Christ, because they not only believed in Him while here, but they now see Him.
I love you mom, and I love you Lord.
Home is with Jesus in Heaven forever.

Week 218
1 Corinthians 10:31
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Lately I have been following a schedule, a very strict schedule. Every night I try to sleep by 9pm and because I have an exam coming up I am up between 2am and 3am. It's not easy sometimes, I get up pray, clean up, gather what I need for the day, food, supplements, etc. post a scripture verse and a daily devotional, quick ab exercise, read the daily devotional and scriptures and pray, then study, head to the gym and then work. As I do all these things, I ask myself why am I doing all this?
Tonight's verse teaches and lets the Christian know that in whatever you do, do it for God's glory. This is something I take so strongly that in what I am doing I am not doing it for me, but for God. I want other's to see Him, not me. Times like these I am especially reminded of my mom. I think, mom was here all alone and raising kids, no job, no education, pulling shopping cart to and from the store to get food, raising us off of welfare, buying us clothes, toys for Christmas, and so much more, why? Mom was doing it to raise Mom's kids, but ultimately this is the trust my mom had in God. God entrusted mom with this mission and mom was going to do it for God's glory.
What I learned just by watching my mom permeates me today, to work hard, but in everything I do, do it all to the glory of God.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.
Home with my Lord.

Week 219
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the LORD's word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the LORD, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the LORD himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the LORD in the air. And so we will be with the LORD forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
After Palm Sunday Holy begins which is this week, it's all about Jesus final days of Earthly ministry and culminates with Easter Sunday and the resurrection of Christ. As a kid I always knew what Easter was about, and I recall mom taking us to Church, mom getting us an Easter basket and all. However as an adult as I continue to walk with Jesus, it takes on a deeper and deeper meaning . Tonight's verse from the book of Thessalonians, which teaches that not only did Jesus rise on Easter morning, but as Christians we too will rise including my mom, and your loved ones.
Easter is a great time to understand and know that our Savior didn't perish, that He rose as He said he would, "Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” - John 2:19"
Rejoice because the Savior of the World lives.
I love you Mom, and I love you Lord.
Home through Jesus.

Week 220
Philippians 4:6-7 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Disappointed seems to come in many forms, through a job loss, car not working, unkind words of people, etc. In all these things it seems that the root cause is the one who is disappointed. See people in life and circumstances can cause turmoil in our souls if we let it. In tonight's verse it is clear, problems come, but in our lives we are not to be anxious for anything, but present to God with thanksgiving our problems, and He will give us peace.
My mom had to go through years of disappoint from health issues, to a marriage that was not good, to many issues, but in all these things it is clear that God took care of my mom. My mom would have a prayer corner of the house I remember and mom could be seen there at night praying, my mom also I recalled prayed by the China cabinet with mom's Bible in hand.
God knows we will face disappointment but instructs us, and wants us to come to Him, and make our requests made known to Him, and He will give us peace.
I love you mom, thank you for always setting an example for us, and I love you Lord, thank you for knowing that I can come to you always through prayer about anything.
Home is close to Jesus.

Week 221
John 16:33 33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
I think lately being overwhelmed has taken a toll. I try to always plan properly and all, but it seems like timing is so important. One thing I was learning these last weeks was going to Jesus in prayer seeking Him and seeing His peace. Tonight's verse talks about going to Jesus to find peace, this peace is the inner peace that only He can give. The peace that Christ gives is true peace. Sure we can have peace (or so we think) through hanging out with friends and family, a spouse, etc. But in Jesus there is a different kind of peace, that I call true peace, that is everlasting.
My mom through my mom's days on this Earth as I look back though mom was in tremendous pain had a sense of peace, a sense knowing though this life may soon be over, mom's faith in Jesus will carry mom through and mom's kids will be well taken care of.
Christ paid the ultimate price for us, and it is through this that Christ gave us Victory through the Cross, and because of this instrument of death, we have peace knowing that no matter what in life we face Jesus is for us.
Love you mom, Love you Lord Jesus.
Home with Jesus our Peace.

Week 222
Mark 4:35-40 35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." 36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" 39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?
Ever have "those days"? In tonight's verse we see Jesus calming the storm, the physical storm that His disciples were in as they were crossing the river in their boat. Many sermons I have heard teach and speak on this being metaphorical as well as Jesus can calm the storms of life. However it is the last part of this verse that I like to concentrate on. When you are having "those days" as Christians and followers of Jesus, what's very important is that we keep our faith in Him. We can read scriptures and see evidence of how God took care of His people, another way is to look at Christians all around us for examples of how God takes care of all us, but the most important thing is when those storms of life come to have faith the same faith that you have when the storms are not there.
My mom went through many days as mom's body was failing of pain, but mom continued pressing forward, never complaining but doing mom's best. When I looked at mom, I think I can say with confidence that though mom's body was withering, mom's faith didn't. Of course this is a growing thing, one simply doesn't just have unshakable faith without trials and tests that brings one to the place of development of that strong faith. The same is true for mom, mom had to be tested so that mom would develop that unshakable spirit of faith throughout mom's life.
The same is true for all of us, to develop that unshakable faith just as you would like anything by practice, and perseverance.
I love you Mom and I love you Lord.

James 1:2-4
Trials and Temptations
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Sometimes as Christians though we feel God is in control of our lives experience anxiety and frustrations that may be brought on by many factors. Tonight's verse comes from the Book of James. We all will face trials here, in fact it would not be wise not to expect them, however when these trials do come our reactions to them tests our faith and produces perseverance.
My mom took care of us, the best mom could do and endure many years of hardship. Then after we were grown mom started facing more and more ailments, you would think that the hardships of raising kids would become easier, however, mom's body was breaking. However mom could look back and remember the things that tested mom's faith, and this in mom's later years produced perseverance, until God called mom home.
Today and everyday when we face trials that test our faith remember James 1:2-4 persevere, through the trial and remember you will come out mature and complete .
I love you mom and I Love you Lord.
Home the grand finale.
