Week 438
Isaiah 41:10
10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
God's Protection
I started scrolling through my social media account this week just to see what others are posting. Well, the majority of things that I have been seeing are others being upset with the gas prices. Over the last few years, there have been multitudes of uncertainty in the world with the Global Pandemic and in various nations.
In tonight's verse we come to the pages of Isaiah 41:10:
10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
When I was growing up there were many times of uncertainty with my family. Financial problems, emotional problems, heartache, etc., however, my Mom always did mom's best. I recall one-afternoon mom was coming home from the store, and mom's purse was under mom's shoulder. Someone ran grabbed mom's purse and ran off. That was all the money mom had for the month and mom came home with a look of despair and pain as mom was uncertain about what mom will do. This did transfer over to me in a sense and I was concerned.
In the book of Isaiah Chapter 41, God uses the prophet Isaiah to show the uselessness in the worship of idols to those who do. God then encourages the ones that trust in Him that He would stand before their enemies and give them the victory.
Though mom was full of despair and pain, especially with the finances for the month after mom's purse was stolen, by God's grace Mom's friend came over and gave mom money for the month.
In the world we live in there is a lot of uncertainty, rest assured that though our problems may remain no matter what God will walk with us, and carry us through.
Trust in the Lord, for He is the certainty and not the uncertainty.
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.
Home with the One who carries us through.

Week 439
James 1:5
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Wisdom
Recently I found myself in a situation where I am unsure how to proceed.
In tonight's verse we come to James 1:5:
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Here in the book, we read the words inspired by the Holy Spirit that James writes—let us know that there will be times when advice is needed, in those times especially to seek the Lord. The idea here is that God can give us the "wisdom" we seek and it can come in many forms and in many ways through friends, families, etc.
I'll always remember that once I needed some advice about helping a person who seemed to be a refugee when I was young. I went to mom for advice and though mom knew a lot mom felt this was an area that mom had no knowledge in. Mom asked that I speak with our Pastor and I did.
Seeking the Lord for wisdom can come in many forms and through others. God can use others, and situations to give us the wisdom we seek. However, knowing and discerning the wisdom from people who are actively seeking the Lord is pertinent.
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.

John 15:18
If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
Worldy Love
Just a few days ago I was talking with this person I know. This person asked me my thoughts on the recent decisions made by our government and mandates.
In tonight's verse we come to John 15:18, where we hear from Jesus:
"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first."
When I was a kid mom taught me many things, like ABCs, counting, etc. I remember right before my Kindergarten entrance exams mom sat with me and taught me those things and more so that I would have every chance to get into school at 4 1/2 years old. This education by mom carried on, and mom taught me about Jesus. My mom gave me a foundation in Christ, though mom is no longer here this foundation is something I can always depend on.
This person who asked me my thoughts on the recent decisions by our government and mandates imposed seemingly wanted to "trap" me. Though I have not even thought about those responses in the past my answers were Biblically based. This person then seemingly insulted me for my responses.
In the world, we live in no matter what as Christians we cannot compromise our faith in Christ. Our desire should always be to honor the Lord and seek Him in every circumstance. No matter how the "world" treats us Jesus is the firm foundation and solid rock we stand on.
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.

Romans 12:18
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Live At Peace
A friend of mine and I really got into it last week. The conversation was through text and I said some things that were seemingly hurtful. I knew in the midst of the conversation I should have stopped texting and not allowed myself to continue.
In tonight's verse we come to Romans 12:18:
"If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."
The context around this passage is forgiveness and not to repay evil with evil.
At times mom and I would get into an argument. It would be a similar situation and I would feel horrible afterward and then I would realize that I should say sorry and apologize.
After the conversation with my friend, I felt horrible. I wish my phone would have crashed in the middle of the conversation then I wouldn't have to let get so far. The one thing I realize is that living at peace with everyone is paramount and most importantly Biblical.
In today's world holding onto grudges and anger may seem ordinary, however, it is Biblical to live at peace with everyone, let God fight our battles, and live in a manner honorable to Jesus as we reflect Him.
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.

Galatians 6:8-9
For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Growing Weary
I must admit over the last few months I have been extremely exhausted and it seems I can't get enough rest. These are the summer months here and there is a limited amount of time to get things done outside before it gets cold, on top of that work has been busy, and trying to get regular exercise in and everything else from family to friends etc. seems to take a toll.
In tonight's verse we come to Galatians 6:8-9:
For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
One thing I learned about my mom is how observant mom was about things. I recall that the mom would like to help others and give. Once I was with mom at a department store, mom went to the "ladies" section to look for clothes and I was walking around. Later, I found mom had a bunch of clothes in mom's arms of varying sizes. I asked mom who are these clothes for mom said mom was buying clothes for my friend and my brother's and sister's friends. I thought that was nice of mom.
When I look back at this mom was doing something generous for others, though we did not have a lot mom was willing to show God's love to others.
You see with everything going on that I wrote above it seems clear that there is a lot to do in and out however the question to ask and that I am asking is am sowing to my desires or are we sowing for the Lord. It's a question we Christians must ask are we planting our time, efforts, gifts, etc. from a place to honor God, or are we sowing from a place of selfish desires.
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.

Colossians 3:23-24
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Down Time
I have been feeling a bit "out of it" this week. I know this because this is an off week from the gym and working out on purpose, with that I had some things planned that I started to feel like not doing just yet.
In tonight's verse we come to Colossians 3:23-24:
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
When we were all growing up my mom had to do a lot of work for us as mom was the only one around who would take care of us. I know there are probably times when mom could have done other things, however, mom pushed through and focused on taking care of us. With that said every person I would say needs some "down time". Mom had it, we all need it. However, that downtime should not turn into slothfulness or laziness.
This week I had some things planned but it may be the Lord is nudging me in a direction to take a little downtime for now. I could be hearing from the Lord correctly, and at the same time as long as I don't indulge in this. When we live for the Lord, the work He has given to us must be seen as coming from Him, and we work hard honoring Him, as tonight's verse suggests. However, once this work is complete the Lord may lead us into some much-needed rest. Recognize these times, and take it.

23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Up Time
Last week we talked about Down Time and recognizing it as a provision from the Lord. Much the same when it is time to work, we are to work serving the Lord. Many times this week as I started a new workout program I found not wanting to take a break. However, as I think through this I am reminded that when it is "go" time I am to work as I am serving the Lord. In tonight's verse we again visit Colossians 3:23-24:
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Mom showed me a lot as I was growing up about work ethic and being able to work hard to achieve goals. Mom had to work hard for us taking care of us, one full year when the washing machine broke down and we did not have money or means to go to a laundry mat or to buy a new one, mom proceeded every Saturday to hand wash all the clothes for four kids (and there were a lot as this took all day morning to night). However, mom's work was to honor the Lord, by taking care of the kids God entrusted to mom.
When I work and I feel like giving up, whether that's working out, work, or anything else that comes I must try to remember Colossians 3:23-24. We work for the Lord, honoring Him. It is something that all of us Christians must do, work as we are serving Him!

Job 12:7-10
7 “But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
9 Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
10 In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.
What Do Our Pets Teach Us
Today was the day for us. Mom's most loyal pet Kanmani (Pomeranian) went home today. I didn't really know what I would feel, but Kanmani was not doing so well, she deteriorated fast. My sister had to make the decision, but God is sovereign in all things and through the lives of our beloved pets God uses to teach us about Himself. In tonight's verse we come to one of my favorite passages Job 12:7-10:
7 “But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
9 Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
10 In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.
You see my mom wanted Kanmani as a pet for a while, my sisters got her for my mom and my mom was happy. I use to joke with mom and say "Mom, Kan is a lot of work, do you still have the receipt?". Just joking of course. Right before mom passed, mom sent Kanmani outside but Kan didn't run off Kan stayed guarding mom. When we brought Kan into the house that day it was as if Kan knew mom had left. Mom always took care of Kan, and Kan took care of mom.
Well in all things God is sovereign, in tonight's verse we are reminded by the prophet Job guided by the Holy Spirit, that the animals these creatures teach us that they know God, and they know that in His hands is their life. God gives us these creatures to teach us about Himself, and that they serve a purpose because their lives point us to God. The same is true for our pets, we understand their unconditional love for us, much the same as God has unconditional love for us. The reversal of our pets is that we also show them, unconditional love, when it is time to release them. They are a different life form from us in the sense that they cannot tell us what is wrong, talk like us, or can be 100% independent but we must show them love back by knowing when their time has come. Much the same that our Heavenly Father does for us.
You are good now Kan. No more pain.

Week 446
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Finding Peace Amid Trials
Last week I was writing about what our pets teach us after my mom's beloved pet Kanmani had passed and I must say for me the week has been difficult. Kanmani took care of mom when I was not around, and mom had a lot of affection for her. Well after Kan had passed the week was hard, I shared with friends that it felt like I lost a piece of mom and that it was like losing mom again. In the midst of this, I struggled to find peace.
In tonight's verse we come to John 16:33:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
These words by our Savior remind me that in the world in which we live there will be many struggles, and many trials, though this is a property of life here, we have hope in Jesus for an everlasting life without what we experience in this world.
During the past week, though it has been hard to find peace, reminding myself that my mom's beloved Kanmani is better today from her sickness gives me a sense of peace. Knowing that the peace we have comes from the Lord gives me peace amid my trials. This helps us as Christians to not get over our trials but to get through them.
Amid our trials, one way to find peace is to be reminded as Christians through scriptures that we have hope that whatever we are experiencing is temporary. Our ultimate hope is that one day we will be ushered into a life of peace that will never end.
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.

Home with Everlasting Peace.
