Week 357
1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
A lot of times I am big on having Biblical discussions on an apologetic level. However many times people get upset although it's not my intention, people tend to become irritated and even belligerent. In tonight's verse we read from 1 Peter 3:15:
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
It's the last part of this verse where we as Christians must always hold onto, the most when discussing subjects with people who tend to have an opinion that they hold onto so strong. Growing up I recall my mom having a discussion with the neighbor's kids asking them to stop playing in the yard. It wasn't too long after that their mom became belligerent and yelling at mom from the outside while my mom was inside the house. My mom went to the door and spoke to this person calmly. I don't 100% recall what mom specifically said but this person -the neighbor's kid's mom- walked away smiling.
The attitude we must have in every situation as believers is to think: "What would scriptures have me to do" in other words what does God want me to do in a particular situation.
Trust His word, and Trust Him. He will give you the answer.
Have A Happy THANKSGIVING!
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 358
Ephesians 4:26 - 4:27
"In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold."
As a Christian one of the things I try not to do is remain angry. Notice I wrote remain angry, the reason for highlighting this is that I think there is a misconception out that Christians should never get angry. In tonight's verse we see Paul speaking to the Church in Ephesus and stating the opposite of what most may think about followers of Christ. Here in Ephesians 4:26-27: "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold."
I remember at times as I was taking care of mom that mom would ask me to do something, or mom would say something that would get me upset or angry. I may in some cases say something back, that may not have been Christ-like. However, each time I would always say sorry to mom.
It's important to note that though we as Christians can get angry and will get angry we are not to remain that way. This anger can turn to bitterness if we remain this way. Now people may offend us, or do something else that may promote anger but in that anger we are to:
1. Not sin
2. Not remain angry
3. Not allow Satan convert our anger to bitterness
This first comes from our hearts, we must remain faithful to God, though we may get angry. If we get angry and lash out at someone we are to not let this last. Asking for forgiveness, discussing the issue(s) at hand with the other person(s) is what the Bible teaches us to do.
As Christians we must always remember and live in a manner knowing someone is always watching us, that someone is our Heavenly Father as well as others who see how we react as followers of Christ. Place your utmost trust in Jesus Christ.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 359
Romans 5:3-5 ESV
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
One of the things I notice as a Christian is that daily as I walk with the Lord, I grow closer and closer to Him. By doing this my desires are shaped by what the Lord has for me in this life. However, there are times that I fail Jesus, and in that failure through sin, I realize more and more that though I dislike the sin, it ultimately brings to light my gratefulness over and over for our savior. In tonight's verse we read from the book of Romans where Paul addressing the people by the power of the Holy Spirit, states in Romans 5:3-5:
"More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."
My mom always taught me to picture God is watching you. By mom engraining this in my mind my desire ultimately became to serve God, to love and to honor Him.
Through the sufferings we face, reminds us of what Christ did for us, that we can rejoice knowing what Christ did for us. We also get a glimpse knowing the pain that we face because of sin, Christ took far more, both physically and spiritually.
As Christians when we sin, we must repent, ask for forgiveness, as well as for strength from the God to not repeat it. Placing our trust in Jesus Christ, and heeding the warnings of the Holy Spirit will give us the reminders we need knowing what Jesus did for us.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 360
Acts 22:29
Those who were about to interrogate him withdrew immediately. The commander himself was alarmed when he realized that he had put Paul, a Roman citizen, in chains.
Though daily I try to walk with the Lord I am not immune to getting upset or even angry. The last few weeks I was suppose to be on vacation, however I was asked by the person running a project I was on to continue to work, just a few more weeks. It was my decision and I decided to do it. In tonight's verse we encounter a misunderstanding that Paul was a part of:
Acts 22:29
Those who were about to interrogate him withdrew immediately. The commander himself was alarmed when he realized that he had put Paul, a Roman citizen, in chains.
Well when my manager found out that I was not on vacation, to make a long story short he lost it. He sent me about three nasty email messages and then called me about five times (I wasn't by the phone to answer). Then when he finally got a hold of me he started to berate me. See he thought I wanted to roll the vacation time over to the new year, as according to company policy this would require a lot of signatures and signoffs, but that was not my intention. As soon as he realized this he felt sorry.
My mom always encountered misunderstandings from others, as I recall a story I mentioned a few weeks ago of the neighbor's kids' mom yelling at mom because my mom told her kids not to play in our yard.
Later in the chapter we encounter Paul stating this after he insulted the high priest:
Acts 23:5
Paul replied, "Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written: 'Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.'"
Misunderstanding abound, in our life, as Christians what matters is how we handle it. My situation affected me a lot, after all I gave up my personal time to help the company. I prayed through it. On my nightly walk God reminded me of this encounter that Paul had. Though ultimately Paul's situation was a lot different than mine, I realized that God allowed this in my life to teach me, to show me, to remind and to place my trust in Him always and in every situation.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 361
Matthew 25:34-40 NIV
"“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’"
One of the things I started to think about this week even more, was how this time of the year effects others. In tonight's verse we see Jesus teaching using a parable, in Matthew 25:34-40:
When I was growing up we didn't have a lot, however my mom at the same time always tried mom's best. So I can say I never really felt like I was missing anything. It's only now when I look back I think about what we had, it brings some realizations to me. My sister reminded me this morning that there was one Christmas were we did not have any presents, and our older brother got us some chocolates for Christmas. I vaguely remember this, at the same it serves as a reminder to me and it should do the same for others that Christmas is not about presents, family, reindeers, etc. it's about Jesus Christ. Since we are followers we must do what He says. In the parable above Jesus describes people who serve Him give to others ("...least of these brothers and sisters of mine"). This giving can be in anyway that meets their needs. Giving a gift, giving food, calling/texting people who are a lone, seeking people who are emotionally down.
Today if there are people in your life, or ones you may see in passing that may fit any of these categories, reach out to them, let them know how you can help. Even if you are one of those who is down yourself, step out reach out to others for Jesus. Doing so will uplift you, put things into perspective and give you a sense of compassion for others.
Do it all for Jesus, because He did it all for us.
Merry Christmas! Praise God.

Week 362
Matthew 11:28-30
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Have you ever felt burned out? I think if we are all honest with ourselves we all do.
The last few weeks have been fast for me. I was suppose to be on vacation but was asked by the project lead to help out if I could as he was extremely busy. I was OK with doing this and did so, knowing it would be beneficial to the client to complete the project before the new year. The project was complete and I was able to take about 2 weeks fully off. Well something started to happen, that something was I started to feel a bit burnout as I still have a few certifications to complete. In tonight's verse we come to Matthew 11:28-30 where Jesus says:
"28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” "
As I began researching what verse to discuss tonight, I was sitting at a car dealership having some maintenance done on the car. A lady sat about six feet from me and I just said hi. We started a conversation, about things that were going on, etc. and the topic of my vacation time came up. She asked whether I was really on vacation, and reminded me that it is important to take time, to relax and unwind.
When I left the dealership I began to think about this as it relates to the verse. See we as Christians go to the Lord, always, we are in Him and He is in us. Since this is the truth God may use your circumstances and situations to speak to you. In this case perhaps He was using this lady at the dealership to speak to me and perhaps it was a confirmation from the Lord to relax trust Him even though I still have a lot to do, to simply trust Him.
My mom would always tell me this "take it easy and take care". I take these words from my mom as a statement, to make sure where I am placing my priorities. We as Christians must place our priorities in Christ, then let Him guide us and lead us.
This echoes to me very clearly and all of us as Christians must realize our priorities lie in Christ and He will guide us.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 363
Discipline
Hebrews 12:11
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
None of really like correction. However if we are honest we realize that correction enhances us, changes us and makes us who we are, in God. In tonight's verse we read from the author of Hebrews, in verse 12:11:
"For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it."
For me to be who I am today and that is living for the Lord, it took His correction. Growing up I was actually sort of lazy not wanting to do homework. I will never forget the day when my teacher decided to use me as an example because I was not doing my homework therefore I was not participating in class. The teacher called my older brother who went to the same school, down from his class room to mine. Then in front of the whole class embarrassed me. The teacher told my brother to tell my my mom that I was not doing my homework. When I got home, and my brother told my mom this, mom was extremely upset. It was through this process that I started changing, though I did not like this discipline or correction that the teacher was trying to instill in me, it made me more of who I am today. Though the teacher started this, and mom was upset with me, it was God disciplining me to make me better. This characteristic that the Lord built in me has made able to adapt to situations and struggles that I wouldn't have if the Lord hadn't shown me early on.
Discipline, though it may be painful at first makes us able to serve the Lord better, and it is for His glory.

Suffering for Christ
1 Peter 4:14
14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
I think a lot of times when we are Christians we try to walk the walk of Christ. However, things may come in our paths and sometimes our reactions to these things may make us question "are we really a believer". In tonight's verse we read an understanding that we as Christians must know, have and live out , 1 Peter 4:14:
"If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you."
Growing up and still even now I come across people who like to insult me. Daily I post Bible verses online on a social networking site. A friend of mine insulted me "publicly" for doing so. One of the many things I learned from mom growing up was mom told me "when someone insults you or makes fun of you they are doing it to Jesus". This is something that stuck with me over the years at times, and confirmed through scriptures as tonight's verse speaks on as well as John 15:18 states the words of Jesus:
"“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first..."
When we live in a world that is corruptible we as Christians must know that insults will come, but knowing Christ will remind us in those moments, how blessed we all are.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Listening To The Holy Spirit
Romans 8:26
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
It was just a few hours ago and I received a call and was asked to give a presentation. I wasn't sure however if I wanted to, so I just said well I'll just do it next, month. However, as I got off the phone I could not ignore this urging I felt, the urging was constant, it wasn't a bothering urge but a gentle one. In tonight's verse we come to Romans 8:26:
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words."
My mom grew up in India and English was mom's second language, yet mom never had a shyness about mom's self. Mom was bold and would stand up in Church during prayer times when the pastor would ask who needs prayer. As mom was standing mom would ask for prayers for mom's family. I never saw any shyness or nervousness in that regard coming from mom. I believed mom relied on the Holy Spirit for strength.
After I got off the phone I was convinced that the Holy Spirit was strongly yet gently urging me to do this presentation. I'm not really a shy person myself, it's just that sometimes I just don't want to. This urging convinced me first pray and then to send a message to the person who called me and say, "Yes I'll do it."
Sometimes we go through emotions that we feel strongly yet gently urged to do something. Trust when this happens that this might be the leading of the Spirit, pray for guidance especially during these times.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.
