Weekly Verse and Song for Tonight Weeks 329-338
May 20, 2020
Week 330
Matthew 10:19-20
19 When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. 20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
This past week I felt ambushed. I found myself going into the normal weekly meeting, when all of a sudden I realize it was not a one on one meeting it was a two on one, meeting with me being the one. I felt ambushed because I was all of a sudden asked to answer questions that were not exactly correct, or fair, however the Lord was with me. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of Matthew were we see Jesus sending out His disciples to preach the good news. Jesus tells them they will be "arrested" (delivered over) but when they are that they would not need to worry about what to say for the Holy Spirit will speak for you.
When I was growing up mom would always pray for us, it's an image I will always have. I would see mom in mom's prayer corner or I would see mom at the table praying. Even if I didn't notice that mom was praying and I interrupted mom on accident mom would just continue to pray. It was mom's time with the Lord. I know mom would always pray that God would be with us. I would always feel grateful even looking back at it now regarding how serious mom knew mom's time with the Lord was.
When I felt ambushed, it was so different. It was as if the Lord was speaking for me, giving me the words, and manner in how to say it. When I reviewed the verse for tonight I am ever more convinced that "it wasn't as if". It was truly God working through me to know how to answer. I was so happy and pleased at what God did, I bowed my knees and thanked Him.
As Christians we are not immune to the hurts and pains of the world. However, we are in fact followers of Christ and even though we will go through these types of situations we can trust that no matter what that the Holy Spirit will be with us, telling us and reminding us how we are to respond. If you have no, give your life to Christ, by placing your trust in Him alone.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.
Home with the One who speaks for us.

Week 331
Psalm 107:28
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
Over the past month I found myself suddenly in "trouble". My heart started to drift into a territory that it had not been in a while, this lead me to anxiety and pain. I was waking up constantly with those butterflies in my stomach and feelings of a lot of anxiousness. I been asking myself why and how did this happen, also more importantly why is God allowing this. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of scripture in Psalm where there Psalmist is describing and incident where they were ship wrecked and this led to the passengers crying out to the Lord in their trouble and He delivered them.
Keep that phrase in mind "...and He delivered them" this is so important to remember. I recall times where mom felt so down and depressed mom's heart was so heavy. I remember mom seemingly crying out to God for deliverance. In time I saw mom's burdens subside.
In my distress I even saught out some godly friends to discuss this with, and their help was great. So why do troubles come? It could be for a variety of reasons. One reason it could be that God is wanting us to know we must lean on Him in our times of need. We must seek God and know that though these issues will arise we go to God, asking for help, much like the passengers did in Psalm 107.
This is what we must do as Christians, problems and troubles will come we must cry out to God. When these situations arise that cause our hearts to get heavy we must remember that when we cry out to God He hears us. Remember the words "and He delivered them". Make this personal "...and He will deliver you!"
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 332
Psalm 85:8
"Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly."
Over the course of a few weeks I felt my emotions up and then I felt them down. It tonight's verse we hear from the Psalmist who exclaims that he wants to hear what the Lord will speak, which will be peace for His people, His saints. However as God speaks let those words not turn them back to their folly.
Many times growing up I would meet a lady who I would or could potentially be interested in dating. My mom I remember would always tell me to be careful because mom did not want me to get hurt. Mom would always pray for me and I recall mom telling me once "I wonder who you will marry". What mom wanted me to do and know was to seek godly wisdom in meeting someone.
As God speaks to us He speaks in various specific ways to catch our attention, so that we would not just hear Him. God wants us to hear Him and put into practice what He tells us, so that we would not return back to our old ways essentially not return back to our folly. For me it was about not letting my emotions get the best of me, but to pray and hear from God, then to put into practice what He says, as such I am honoring Him.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 333
Proverbs 12:26 26 The righteous choose their friends carefully,
but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
This past weekend was interesting I met with a friend and her kids and it was a really nice time. I walked away really excited and happy
about meeting with them and spending time albeit short with them. I hadn't seen my friend in years and when I showed up her and her kids rushed out to see me and gave me hugs. Tonight's verse comes from Proverbs here we see words of the wise, regarding friendship. The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the non-righteous leads their friends astray.
There was a time I recall that my mom had many friends at Church, they would always reach out to mom and vice versa. However over time things changed and these friends were not there. Mom also had a friend that lived a few doors down that would visit mom and talk with mom. This friend prove to be a true friend.
We as Christians as we walk this Earth will encounter many different types of people, however we must recall that as we live, our friends that we choose must be carefully chosen. As Christians it is the way to live the Bible says so. We also must remember our best friend is Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit guides us to these meaningful friendships.

Week 334
2 Timothy 4:10
for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.
Over the past few weeks I was struck with the realities of friendships. It seems to me that as Christians we should be friends with anyone and everyone. However, there are times when this life as a Christian gets tested by those we thought were our friends. In tonight's verse we see the apostle Paul in a prison as he writes a letter to Timothy. In the letter Paul writes many things one thing he tells Timothy was about a man named Demas who was in love with the world, and so he abandons Paul.
When I was younger I never realized what friends meant to me really. It was always mom and my siblings and as I think back to certain days I recall that mom would always seem a lone. There was a time when mom had people come over, a person who was mom's friend that we called Grandma Ruth, Ms. Upton, etc. However as time went on so did these friendships. It wasn't necessarily that these friends got angry with mom, it was more that the time, the season for the friendship was slowly dwindling.
A few weeks ago I met with a friend who I met for the very first time, after knowing her for four years. The meeting we had was OK, it wasn't very exciting and happy. A few years ago I met with another friend who I knew for seven years and I met her for the very first time and the meeting went very well. With these two distinctions being very true, the outcomes were different. The first person (the four year person) was upset for some reason, the second person (the seven year person) was happy. The first person ended up "abandoning" our friendship were as the seven year person kept it.
In everything it seems that God has a plan. In the verses that follow Paul states "Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry." (2 Timothy 4:11) and "At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them." (2 Timothy 4:16) and finally "But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth." (2 Timothy 4:17)
Paul was able to say that "the Lord stood by my side and gave me strength". This is God's plan for all of us, not necessarily to lean on our "friends" or even "family" but to know ultimately that God is with us.
Today and everyday if you feel a lone because of some sort of abandonment, remember that the Lord just as he was with Paul in that prison cell that He is always by your side. Give you life to Jesus.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 335
Matthew 7:14
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
The Bible gives an analogy regarding finding God. In tonight's verse Jesus tells His disciples that small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life. Over the past few weeks I have been struck with trying to figure something out about a friend of mine. This friend and I have been friends for years and at the same time we have had some issues. It's more that I have been having these issues with trust.
I know my mom was always cautious for me with having friends. The reason mom was because mom was hurt in mom's own life. At the same time mom knew that pain was inevitable with friends and mom wanted to shelter me.
What I felt the Lord leading me to was finding out the truth of my friend. My suspicions were not warranted and she proved time and time again that she was a true friend.
Although the verse for tonight is about finding the Lord, the concept is the same. Trusting God and letting Him lead us is the most important thing. It is the by the power of the Holy Spirit that we are guided to all truths. He will lead us into knowing things about people as well, who we should and shouldn't choose to be close friends with.

Proverbs 4:23
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
One of the biggest challenges in life is an emotional challenge. An emotional challenge can permeate your entire body and affect, your ability to do things both physically and mentally. In tonight verse we see hear from God, who tells us, to guard our hearts for from everything we do flows from it.
There were times growing up that I saw my mom face certain obstacles and challenges these challenges turned into emotional issues that affected mom almost debilitating mom's ability to do things. I know when I was facing potential emotional challenges mom was wise to tell me to be careful, mom would pray for me and make sure I knew what I getting into.
As Christians we need to heed God's words. To circum to an emotional challenge that is to give in can hurt you more than you know or anticipated. Heed the warnings from the Holy Spirit as He guides you to all truths. Put your trust in Jesus Christ and know He is there for you to listen through prayer all that may be affecting you. Follow God.

Week 337
1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Over the course of the last few months I been finding myself reaching out to others, and apologizing for any wrong I may have caused them. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of 1 John 1:9. Here we see John inspired by the Holy Spirit instructing us: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.". Some of these apologies I have been reaching out to others and giving have come over the years. I look back for example and see a "text" argument I have had with others and as I re-read them I realize, "that was me in the past, but that is not me now".
When my mom was here, I recall many arguments I had with mom. At the moment it might of seem that the reason for the argument was legit, but as I had that argument with mom, over the next few hours my heart would change and I would realize how silly I was. Before the night was over I would apologize to mom. According to James 5:16 "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." this was the right thing to do.
Today I do find myself apologizing to others, as I ponder this I realize that, in the past I was different, over the years and still now God has been working on me changing, conforming me to the image of His son, Jesus. As we understand Christianity is not a religion but a relationship with Jesus, and just like any good relationship as we draw closer to Him, we become more like Him (Romans 8:29). Praise God!
As Christians if you have someone or know of someone who you may have wronged and they deserve an apology from you, however they are no longer here on Earth, understand tonight's verse, go to God for forgiveness. God will release of this burden and you will be renewed , if you are confessing truly from your heart. Trust the Lord to lead you.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Colossians 3:23
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
Sometimes we all have obstacles and hinderances that come our way. Our schedules may be packed so much so that we may feel like we are going in circles, and overwhelmed. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of Colossians. Paul here tells the Colossian Church that whatever they do, to do it for the Lord.
Growing up with a my mom, who was single, mom always worked hard, sometimes as I think back I tend to wonder how mom had so much strength not just physical but mental. Mom had to deal with a lot. Our monetary was coming from Public Aid and Child Support, but mom though concerned always seemed to manage well. Mom's strength I am reminded came from Jesus, though mom was single, and did not have a job mom took care of us as mom realized we were a gift from God, and mom would care for us to honor God.
In my daily life I remember the things mom did, and not only do I remember this I am reminded to work as unto the Lord. This is with work, exercise, when I speak with others, how I treat others, it's with everything in life. It's important to do your best in life, the approach as Christians that we should take daily, is in whatever we do, do so to honor Jesus.
