Weekly Verse and Song for Tonight Weeks 197 - 205

Week 197
Psalm 28:7-8
7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. 8 The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
One of the biggest challenges in life is trusting someone. In tonight's verse the Psalmist writes about putting his trust in God, "my heart trusts in Him" From a very early age, I believe my mom taught me about Jesus because mom knew one day I would fully put my trust in Him especially during times of conflict. Mom knew that mom could only take me so far in life and that from there, my trust would need to be in Jesus. This is true when mom is not around and could not watch me, but mom instilled that "God is watching you".
Today I do my best to focus my heart and mind on Jesus, during moments of conflict, I know where I need to go, to the Savior.
I love you mom thank you for teaching me where my heart should lie. I love you Lord Jesus.
Home onward.

Week 198:
John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. .
It seems today there is something missing . Tonight's verse comes from John 14:27 Jesus tells His disciples that He is leaving His peace. This week in Bible study a question came up from Romans study, "what does it mean to have peace with God?", my answer was something different than I thought of in the past. At one point in life we were all considered antagonistic toward God, in other words enemies. However because of Jesus we now have peace with God, the antagonistic nature we have is now removed when we accept Jesus, to be the Peace giver.
I think seeing this verse in this light is not only correct but scripture backs it up (Romans 5:8, Romans 5:10). One day we all leave this life, the main thing is have we accepted Jesus Christ to be the one who bridges the gap between us and God the Father. In other words Jesus died for our sins, and brings peace to God the Father and us. Not to lose sight of Jesus being God the Son.
Today my mom is experiencing this is everlasting peace in the arms of our Savior.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.
Home with my Lord and Savior.

Week 199:
Psalm 31:19-20
How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you. In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.
Tonight's verse from the book of Psalms is about David thanking God for His goodness, protection and mercy. This month is Thanksgiving it's a great and interesting holiday. When I was younger I remember mom cooking Turkey etc, and really looking forward to this "holiday". I also recall however, that it wasn't about thanking God as a kid. I remember we would pray and be happy before eating, however I can't recall it being about God. As I grew older this changed a lot and I started seeing this day as a celebration to thank God for all that He has done, this year and will continue to do. I think a lot of times when you are a kid you may not this as a Christian holiday and nor am I claiming it is. However growing up I know that everything in life is centered around Jesus.
Now knowing and not experiencing my mom's comfort here on Earth to make the holiday special all brings to reality that my led us to Jesus, and that is what I am most thankful for.
I love you mom, and I love you Lord. Thank you Jesus for you love, mercy, goodness and protection.

Week 200
Psalm 95:1-7
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. 3 For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. 6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker; 7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice,
Tonight's passage comes from Psalms in it the Psalm is encouraging the readers sing to the Lord to praise, to come before Him with Thanksgiving and Extol Him with music and Song.
There are two words here: Thanksgiving and Extol, that at first can be glanced over and figured out. However if one takes to the definition of the words to get a clear meaning we get this:
1. Thanksgiving = the expression of gratitude especially to God.
2. Extol = Praise Enthusiastically
Surprisingly the Thanksgiving has loss it's meaning today, we as Christians should consider the world and understand that our first thanks is to God He is the one who hold us up, He is in control as the verse in tonight's passage states "... in His hands are the depths of the Earth..." We are also encouraged to Praise enthusiastically, and specifically the Psalmist tells us to do this towards our Creator.
Growing up my mom always taught us about God and we would have Bible studies that would involve singing and reading and studying a Children's Bible. Next week when millions of Americans and people around the world celebrate Thanksgiving, we as Christians should remember to give our first thanks to God, and to also Praise Him enthusiastically to the Sovereign Creator of the Universe not only for what He has done, but also what He will continue to do, whether we feel it be to our benefit or not, be reminded that God is in control.
I love you Mom and I love you Lord.

Week 201
Psalm 23:1-6 ESV
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Tomorrow millions of Americans will be celebrating Thanksgiving. For me personally as with many other "holidays" the excitement and feelings that were present are not the same. from year to year. See I been a kid longer than I've been an adult it seems, still remembering the wonderful Thanksgivings as a kid that I celebrated with my family, and my mom making it special just with the aroma of a Turkey cooking on a Thursday morning, remembering no school for 2 days and coming home that Wednesday feeling relaxed and watching The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. It's those memories that seems to dull the once excitement, because I cling to them. Tonight's verse from the pages of Psalms is one of my mom's favorite and not only that it tells us what to look to.
As Christians we should always look towards Jesus and remember who leads us, who to truly give thanks to and who to serve and worship. He walks with us and is with us always.
So as the Thanksgiving season approaches and ends, it's important to always give thanks 365 days to the one who is always with you, the things that brought me "peace" as a kid are fleeting I know this because today those same things don't exist, but it is the things of Jesus our Creator that will never flee and will be with us forever.
I love you Mom and I love you Lord. I love you mom that you lead me to the cross, to realize the true Thanksgiving, experienced by knowing Jesus Christ.
Home the place of Eternal Thanksgiving.

Matthew 19:14
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
As the year passes many times it's a good idea to reflect and see where you are now, and where you were a year ago. More importantly it's important to reflect on God's goodness and strength as He brought you through trials that were present in your past. The reason, to reflect on your past is to never forget what God has done, so that whatever you are going through now or will go through can be reflected upon to strengthen your resolve to know that God has not forgotten you.
For example I remember just a year ago this time, I was struggling to pass an exam, an exam that literally every morning gave me butterflies in my stomach and made me so scared. Scared because my job depended on it, I didn't want to give up, and I didn't want to quit, however I questioned my ability to pass. God however brought me a study group, brought me a study partner and gave me the confidence to go through the trial. In all cases all things work together for good to those to love God, (Romans 8:28). As I was going through the trial I realized I could not enjoy the Christmas season, but God's grace after the trial ended I had sometime to reflect on Christmas. In order to get through the trial I had to humble myself and be like a child, with faith to believe that this was possible. Tonight's verse Jesus states to let the children come to Him, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these. As I study and understand this verse, it is to mean to have the child like faith to believe in Jesus, humbly, not with so much "adult" knowledge.
This is the last week of November 2017 we are in Advent which are the 4 weeks before Christmas. It's a time if you are able to reflect that Christmas is here. I know my mom enjoyed Christmas but mom always missed mom's parents. Today my mom is in Heaven with Jesus, mom had the child like faith to believe, in Christ. This Christmas reflect with child like faith to resolve in your heart what Christmas is, it is the coming of the Savior into our World. Praise God!
I love you mom, thank you for teaching me about Jesus as a child. I love you Lord, thank you for being my Lord and Savior..

2 Samuel 23:10
but Eleazar stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead.
Being a Christian is not about living a life one way in front of people and living another way when you are alone. It's about one way, following Jesus knowing that He is always watching you and that you are under His authority. This year I have been doing a lot of study on Romans, and about living a life knowing you are redeemed individual. Tonight's verse speaks to a particular area that most of us experience, fatigue. In the verse Eleazar was working to battle the Philistines, and the verse says he grew tired. Yet the verse goes on to state that The LORD brought about a great victory that day.
Tonight fatigue is setting on me, I am tempted to get angry and act angrily to a co-worker but as I stated above being a Christian is a walk, it's a daily walk where you follow Christ, knowing this as Eleazar found out that the Lord bought about victory. I'm not stating that anger is necessarily wrong but for the right reasons, my reasons would be because I am simply tired.
Growing up I saw mom go through so many things mom must of grown tired yet mom knew that God will bring out the victory.
I love you mom, thank you that I can relate my current state back to you, I love you LORD, thank you for letting me know that victory is yours.

John 1:14
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
At an early age my mom taught us about Jesus. People always ask me when was I saved. My answer to them has always been this:
"when I was growing up my mom taught us about Jesus, as I grew older my love and passion for Christ just grew and I became closer and closer to Christ, and in 2004 when I saw The Passion of Christ, my heart was just turned over to Christ."
When I state this most people understand that I've always believed to a degree, it's just in time my spiritual maturity increased, and I truly understood what Jesus did for me.
In tonight's verse we see that it tells us of Jesus. Jesus came from the Father, and He is full of grace and truth. We are led to Jesus by the truth that He reveals to us through Scriptures (The Word), furthermore the Holy Spirit reveals the truth to us and we believe in the one who came from the Father. In this Advent season we are reminded of hope the hope of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No just at Christmas time but at all times grow-up knowing who your Savior is.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.
Gloria in excelsis Deo (Glory be to God in the highest),

Week 205
Luke 2:11
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
What a great truth! In tonight's verse we see Luke the physician telling of the birth of Jesus. Christmas is just 5 days away, and in this great season we are reminded as we should throughout the year that the single greatest event in History took place, the birth of Jesus, coming into this world to save sinners like you and me.
I was chatting with a friend last week who has been going through a lot and could not "bear" the Christmas season because it wasn't how she imagined her life to be after seeing her friends and family celebrate the tradition of getting together and her "broken family" not together. I will admit as the years go on and life changes the traditions change and it makes me remember:
-A time when my mom would be wrapping presents
-A time when I would be excited to see all the gifts mom would get us.
However as I am reminded of these memories I then start to:
-Recall how mom struggled and took care of us
-Recall how mom would give us $50 each for Christmas, and today I see that as mom giving of mom's self
Then as I ponder these new thoughts I am reminded that Christmas tradition is not about me and what I do with my friends and family but it is about that manger that place where Jesus was born in the City of David, that the Savior of all human kind, the Savior oaf the Universe gave of Himself and stepped out of Heaven so that we might be saved.
That's Christmas and that's the "tradition" that all Christian's should hold onto, and a "tradition" that shall never change.
I love you mom, and I love you Jesus.
