Week 206
Ecclesiastes 3:1 1There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
As the Year comes to a close it's always good to reflect on God's goodness not only of the year that is closing but also of the past years. This month I had some time off, however I spent a great deal of time taking care of things with the cars, house, etc. I also had a chance today to go to the doctor and have some work done on myself that I needed. The thing about going to the Doctor is that it reminded me of my mom. I was telling my sister today how when I was a kid mom always took care of us, mom put mom's self to the side and took care of us. This morning it was so cold outside, I got up, got dressed and went to my car and drove to the Doctor. Growing up mom would take us on the CTA bus, and we would go to the Doctor, I remember on the way thinking about how I would go home soon and play with my toys etc. It's interesting however, how much I can appreciate my mom for doing this for us. Taking us to the Doctor, though today seemed so simple back then mom struggled but I didn't even think of it as a struggle as mom took care of us.
It could be cold, it could be raining but if we needed to go mom would take care of us. I'll never forget the sacrifice mom would make, back then it seemed so normal, but as an adult I can see now, how hard it could be.
Before mom went home to be with Jesus, by God's grace I was able to take care of mom and take mom to the hospital several times for various checkups, etc.
It was mom's earthly sacrifice for us, that allowed me to one day give back by taking care of my mom.
The verse for tonight is so appropriate for the end the year, as we reflect, it's important to remember that there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under Heaven. Thank you Jesus!
I love you mom, and I love you Lord.
Home forward.

Week 207:
Philippians 3:12-15
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
Today I been home pretty much all day, it is one of the coldest days in Chicago. As I walk around the house I got a chance to think about mom, as the house is dreadfully cold. I called a furnace repair man to come out and take a look at the furnace. However bottom line my suspicion was confirmed. It seems the reason the house was so cold was because the vents need cleaning. I thought about mom because I know the cold affected mom's body so much. My sister told me that mom once said that Chicago wasn't always this cold.
I think as time travels on in our lives we tend to really start thinking about what life is really about, Is life really just about what I do for work, school, etc,? The truth is life is really about one, it is really about Jesus Christ. In tonight's passage Paul writes that he forgets the past and strains ahead to Jesus. As time travelled onward for mom and mom experienced the cold Chicago winters I think mom more and more desired to be with Jesus. In this life mom raised kids and everything that goes along with it, yet when mom came close to seeing mom's body breaking down, I tend to believe mom looked toward the goal, not the goal of what this life tells us it is about, but the goal of straining ahead toward Jesus.
I love you mom, thank you mom, for being an example. Thank you Jesus, I love you Lord.
Home with Jesus.

Week 208:
Deuteronomy 31:6
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
This is the time of the year that as winter dawns, and as the Christmas season is over that things tend to feel a little lonely and quiet. The reasons for this is because the day time seems shorter and 5pm in the winter can be as dark as 9pm in the summer and people tend to feel down and even depressed. Tonight's verse addresses something so important for Joshua but it's truths is also for us today. Joshua was taking over for Moses, and God encouraged Joshua to not be afraid, but God will always be with him wherever he goes. Today as the day passes and people return home from work, school, or other places they tend to feel the loneliness that accompanies the dark "day" sky.
I remember coming home many times and seeing my mom just sitting in the corner of the couch quietly watching Wheel of Fortune. I always felt that mom had a lot of worries. One time I remember my mom asking me as I came home "...how do you think my father died". At the time I couldn't relate, but as I mentioned mom had a lot of things on mom's mind. Yet, no matter what mom always tried mom's best cooking, and cleaning, etc. Though mom was going though a lot of physical and mental worries, mom always had joy, the joy that comes when you know Jesus. Joy is different than happiness, Jesus tells us in John 15:11 "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete". Remaining in Christ knowing who He is and knowing this world is not it, will make a follower of His walk with joy, no matter what is going on.
Our moods should not be affected whether it is dark or cold, though it can, keeping our focus on Christ and knowing that He is with us no matter what will make our lives brighter.
I love you mom, thank you for your continuous examples, I love you Lord, thank you because knowing you makes our joy complete.

Week 209
Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light"
Many times in life it simply feels like this is a BIG BURNOUT. I just came back from a month long vacation, but with that one would think I would be well rested and not tired any longer "ready to take on the world" to a degree I feel this way, but to a lesser degree I feel not. Tonight's verse comes from the pages of Matthew where Jesus instructs us to come to Him, all who are weary and burdened. This week I feel very weary, very burdened and even as I type this it is clear to me, that it is not because of a lack of rest but more so because of a lack of relief.
I have a lot on my mind and the truth is sometimes "a lot" on ones mind can cause more of a fatigue than mental wear. Case in point I feel that I was treated by a few people harshly my response was to be harsh back. However this did not lessen the weight but increase it. As Christians it is always important to seek Jesus in all circumstances, to go to Him in both prayer and through scriptures to seek answers to questions, concerns, etc, that may be weighing on you. As you pray and read scriptures it is essential to let the Holy Spirit guide you and direct your steps.
A few years before my mom went home to be with Jesus, mom would always tell me that mom is praying for me. This essentially always made me feel comfort knowing mom would pray. Mom would also encourage me to seek godly people as well, which I do.
Jesus tells us to come to Him, and He will guide us.
I love you mom, and I love you Lord always.
Home that's a place where you come as you are.

Week 210
Romans 5:3-5 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
From week to week, it always seems like as long as we live, there will always be "something". The something I am referring to here is problems in life. Tonight's verse comes from the pages of Romans. Paul tells us that in our sufferings we gain a new found perspective, a perspective and understanding that will not come without it. However, not only do we gain a perspective we gain wisdom and understanding, strength and hope.
Last week I received news that made me upset, but it's in the news that I realize my reaction to it, doesn't necessarily hurt me but in fact it gives me more wisdom. My mom went through so many days where things always looked horrible, mom took care of us without much. However as I look back at how mom overcame obstacles I am reminded that mom went through a lot but built perseverance, character and hope. I remember one of mom's nurses telling me how your mom was "so wise". My mom put mom's hope through everything in life to Jesus.
Today we all can have that same hope, through our problems, because ultimately it is God that carries us through. Praise God!
I love you Mom and I LOVE you Lord.

Psalm 68:5-6 5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. 6 God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
God always takes care of us. It seems so many times that life just have circles. My mom for one lived a life here to take care of mom's kids. It was hard for my mom no doubt. Many times my mom felt lonely, sad and tired, but through it all it's so abundantly clear that God took care of mom.
In this life as Christians, whether we are tired, lonely or all the above what we can hold onto is God and the love He alone has for us, and that through it all He will alone take care of us.
I love you mom, thank you for setting an example. I love you Lord, you are the one who truly and ultimately takes care of us.

Week 212
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Yesterday was mom's birthday. I contacted my sisters to see how they were, one of my sisters said she was sad and the other said she was OK. Then I was asked how I was. Honestly I did feel a bit sad, and I also felt a bit OK as well. One my sisters said "I'm sad but I know mom is 100% OK". As I write this and look at the verse for tonight I realize yes mom is 100% OK.
Mom has a relationship with Jesus and mom knew and taught us about The Lord. I remember having many Bible studies and prayer times as a kid. Mom knew mom's place with God and why God put mom here. Mom was here to share the good news with mom's kids to and those all around, to lead us to Jesus, and sometimes this was with words or by simply living and striving.
Today because of Jesus, and our Heavenly Father mom is in Heaven enjoying life that will never end with Mom's Savior.
Love you mom, Happy Birthday. Love you Lord, thank you for being our Savior.
Home with Christ forever.

Week 213
1 John 1:5-7
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
During Bible Study this morning I read verses from Romans 12:14-16, it spoke about when others persecute us, how we ought to treat them back, I'm guilty of not always being kind to those who persecute me, or in other words mistreat me. We as Christians are called to be lights, a light for Jesus so that when other see us, they will know our Heavenly Father.
I can recall many people saying how nice and wise my mom was, after mom's passing. Many said I so enjoyed conversations with your mom, she was so kind, or I miss your mom. Some of the ones who said this are people who would never most likely pick up a Bible, in fact some of the ones who have said these kind words about my mom are Muslim.
The world we live in can be cruel and unkind, we can be mistreated left and right even though our intentions may be for good. As Christians we are called to be a light for the Lord. Living this way is not easy but it is right. In my time, I pray God uses me, and all Christians to be His light even when it is tough.
I love you Mom and I love you Lord.

Hebrews 12:2
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
After 99 years today is the day that Billy Graham a loyal servant of Jesus went home to be with the Lord. It is interesting my mind because many people knew Billy Graham, and many people were saved by God's grace through the BGC or Billy Graham Crusades. Mr. Graham would fill arenas and offer a message, and would also have something called the "Invitation" at the end of the message where he would invite anyone who wanted to give there lives to Jesus Christ. Mr. Graham also offered literature, other tv ministries, and call in phone numbers to anyone interested in hearing the message of Christ.
My mom, for one every Saturday night would listen and watch Billy Graham on TV and during the "Invitation" and the song played "Comes as I am..." Mom would say it's like Heaven coming down. My Mom admired Mr. Graham.
Through it all, however we always look toward the cross not man. Man is an agent a faithful servant for Jesus Christ. As tonight's verse exudes, knowing and always remember it is Christ who is the pioneer and perfecter of faith. Though we serve Him, He is the prize ultimately, and one day if we are true followers of Christ we will be before Him, and in perfect peace with Jesus.
I love you mom and I love you Lord, the true pioneer of our faith.
