Weekly Verse and Song for Tonight Weeks 339-347

Week 339
Psalm 37:23-24
The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.
Even for the best of Christians we stumble. In tonight's verse we see the Psalmist address just that. The Psalmist writes: The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand. (Psalm 37:23-24). This is really important to remember that when we stumble we do not fall as Christians.
When I was younger I recall mom had a some difficulties that resulted in mom drawing a bit away from the Lord. My mom stopped us from going to Church as mom did not go and I never truly knew why. It was for many years. Later in life it was like a resurgence mom's walk with God grew and mom started attending Church again and with it I joined mom.
I know for myself I stumble, and it's because of sin, one thing I am remembering today is Psalm 37 and I am keeping it on my heart. I am personalizing it as well. I may stumble but I will not fall because it is the Lord that holds me by the hand.
This is the same that is true for every Christian. Though you may stumble you will not fall for it is the Lord that holds us up. When we do stumble, remember the Lord even more, go to Him in prayer for direction and for forgiveness because as the Psalm says "The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives." (Psalm 37:23). Every detail of our lives is important to our Heavenly Father.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 340
2 Timothy 4:17
But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth.
Have you ever felt deserted, by people including family and friends? If so tonight's verse is a verse that you will be able to relate with and know that God will never leave you. In the dark Roman prison was Paul, and while there he spoke of the feelings of abandonment as he "penned" a letter to Timothy. In 2 Timothy 4:17 the Apostle Paul explain how that at his latest trial that no one was with him to help defend him, "but" the Lord. Paul writes "But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth." -2 Timothy 4:17
My mom at one point in my mom's life I could tell that though us as kids were around my mom was alone. Mom did not have friends, or people Mom could rely on. As we grew older I recall seeing my mom stronger, and though mom was still alone mom was not alone. God was with my mom. The Holy Spirit guided mom into knowing Jesus more and more each day. Mom's strength increased and mom was able to accomplish things in mom's life. Simple things like gardening, taking care of the household, cooking, cleaning, etc. things that mom could not do with joy, however now mom could because of mom's loneliness seemed to have vanished.
I myself know that I encounter obstacles daily, obstacles that make me wonder why am I having to go through these certain things, such as at work. Sometimes these obstacles stem from not having people to help me, which results in me having to figure out to deal with things at work on my own. However the phrase I keep on my heart and mind is "But God..." just as the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy.
As Christians we will all face moments, or even extended moments of loneliness, remember as the Apostle did the phrase "But God ____". Fill in the blank with whatever you are going through or are encountering. Know that God is with you, and is at your side. God promises to never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8).
If you have not placed your trust in Jesus Christ, do so today, ask the Lord to forgive you of your sins, and place your trust in Him, and in Him alone.
I love you Mom and I love you Lord.
Home with the One who never leaves us or forsakes us.

Week 341
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
When I was in college I remember being so busy that I barely could find the time to eat as I was on an upward peak. Then when a semester was over I felt I was on a downward peak, I recall even during those times trying to find things to occupy my time. In a sense I was trying to be productive and purposeful. In tonight's' verse we come to the Church in Ephesus where Paul writes, to them, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10).
As I was growing up I recall seeing mom, busy as could be, going from place to place, store to store, trying to take care of us (mom's four kids). Then a time came when we were all out of the house (so to speak) in other words, we became more independent. As I think back I recall my mom seemingly trying to find mom's place, in other words mom's purpose. Now that I think back mom did, mom raised us, but mom's place mom's purpose was where it always was, as a devoted follower of Jesus.
Going back to my college days and even now as I look back and forward, I realize my place is where it always was. That place and that purpose was with Jesus which is the same place it's always been.
Many of us are active in our lives and some of us aren't the one thing that we should all realize and know is that as Christians we first find our place with Christ.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 342
Psalm 27:14
14
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.
This week so far my daily devotions have been about two things being strong in the Lord and waiting for Him. In tonight's verse we read from the Psalmist just that, in verse 14 of the 27th Psalm it reads: "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. When I read that I realize that what is being conveyed first is to wait. Waiting is not always easy we all want something and something now, however as the Psalm continues it read to be strong as we wait for the Lord.
Growing up mom had so much things on mom's mind. One thing as I look back is that mom wish to see mom's dad again. However, when mom moved to America mom never saw mom's dad ever again, though mom wanted to, there were many obstacles. One obstacle was money. As we all grew older mom had a chance to go back to India to see mom's family for the first time in over 30 years and visit mom's dad's grave. Throughout all this mom waited for God to provide a way, and mom stayed strong.
Today we all might be looking for something, a new job, a new car, a spouse, etc. However with all that we should remember we want God's best and in the best way He has it planned for us. As we know that His ways are to teach us and grow us closer to Him.
When mom went back to India mom was able to give money to mom's family, fix up the grave site of mom's dad and give one last honor to mom's dad. Though things may not work out the way we want it, we want God's best and this calls for us to sometimes wait, and as we wait we must rely on God's strength to carry us through.
I love you mom and I love you Lord.

Week 343
Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Recently I started pursuing something that I wasn't 100% sure was from God. It wasn't something that was wrong but something I became interested in after a long period of time. I prayed about this and felt somewhat of a "leading". In tonight's verse we come to the pages of Romans 12:2 as it reads "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
I recall my mom telling me one time not to do something that would potentially break my heart. In my mind I knew mom was trying to protect me, but I was an adult and seemingly knew better. Making a long story short and basically not listening to mom's advice I found myself in an even worse situation that I had been in before.
Going back to my earlier statement about the recent pursuit I was on, I realize. as I was going through this recent endeavor that things didn't seem right. I continued to test and pray and I am now able to see clearly that an opportunity that I once thought was right for me was not. This to me shows my spiritual growth, where as years before when mom was "protecting" me I pursued things anyway ignoring the testing.
Sometimes in life we see an opportunity, and we want to do it. We as Christians seek God's wisdom and try to hear clearly, however as tonight's verse points out, we are to test things which includes these opportunities, endeavors, relationships, friendships etc. By testing these things we come to know God's will for our lives. So though you may find yourself pursuing an opportunity, while doing so take those small steps that allow you to test it. As you test, go to God in prayer and allow Him to transform your thinking into His will.
I love you mom and I love you LORD.

Week 344
John 16:32
"A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.
Earlier this year I wrote about the verse above, however it is the first part of this verse I like to put some focus on tonight. In the current age we are living in where things are closed or closing, I find myself more isolated than ever. For me as a person I will humbly admit that I do enjoy a lot of quiet time. However as time continues I do find myself more isolated than ever. In tonight's verse we see Jesus speaking to His disciples, telling them ""A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me".
I will always remember late in life when I would come home from work I would see mom peacefully sitting on the couch. Mom had this peaceful and confident demeanor. You see mom was physically a lone but mom was not a lone, for mom knew God was with mom. Feelings are not always true in the case for Christians, feelings of loneliness are just that an untrue feel.
We as followers of Jesus are not immune to this. In the verse above Jesus knew what to expect, the same could be true for many of us, times are coming and are here that we will feel this loneliness, this isolation. In these times cling to the words from John 16:32. Jesus is with you, God is with you, the Holy Spirit is with you. The challenges that come from this feelings of isolation can be overcome knowing that your "Father" you Heavenly Father is with you.

Week 345
Ephesians 3:6
This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
This week and pretty much a few times of this past summer I been having a discussion on people with friend. This friend of mine who is also a Christian seems to also not understand that the way God sees us, which is as one nation, one people. The only difference is that there are some who will choose to serve God and some who will not. In tonight's verse we come to the Church of Ephesus where Paul is speaking in his letter to the people which is also for us. Paul writes: "This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus" -Ephesians 3:6.
Growing up with mom we lived apart from people who were of our decent -Indian, from India- and as such I could say that I personally never had a strong distinction between myself and others. I saw myself as Indian however at the same time, not belonging to one people group. I think this was a value my indirectly instilled in my but one that God directly instilled in me. I had no choice in a way, I would make friends with anyone, it didn't matter what people group they belonged to.
As Christians we must all come to this realization by God's grace. This Realization is one that we are no different than others we are not separate. We as Christians must know that the only difference between our self and the person next to us is whether we follow Christ or not. Having this understanding we can walk as faithful followers of Jesus not on the basis of what people group we belong to but on the basis of whether we are truly His.

Week 346
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
Everyday we all make decisions, like what's for dinner, what we will do for the day, etc. Then there are times when we have to make a bigger decision on something that we may not be so sure of. In tonight's verse we come to Psalm 119:105, where the Psalmist writes "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
Many times as I was growing up I would see mom contemplating things, for example at the grocery store. Mom was effectively making a decision how to spend the little money we had. With those seemingly little decisions I could see today how I am much the same in my spending habits. It's a way for me to honor God in what He has given me. Even more recently I have found myself making bigger decisions, like to take a job, to leave a job, etc. However where I find myself in all these things is in prayer over these things.
Regardless of the decisions we make which may seem BIG or Small if we are a follower of Christ, The Holy Spirit is guiding, and leading us. Prayer is the answer, pray over everything whether it seems small or large then trust in Him, know that He is with us always and in every decision.

Week 347
John 10:27
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
Everyday I would say I experience something that I feel led to do. However there are times when the things I am led to do do not seem logical or correct. In tonight's verse we come to John 10:27 where we see Jesus, talking to His disciples stating "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."
As I have mentioned in previously my mom would always encouraged me to pray about everything and to listen to what God is teaching me. However the question I have now a days and some of the readers here might as well is how can I know John 10:27. As I ponder this thought the answer is clear. They say never diet but to live a healthy lifestyle and I will say the same is true as a Christian. We should live a Christian lifestyle, that is being in God's word, reading and studying scriptures, praying, and being around other believers.
In the world we live in there are many voices we may hear, whether it's a decision, a choice, or something else being a Christian and living for Christ involves a lifestyle commitment. It is then that we can discern Christ's voice over others, then we will know we are living for Him.

I love you mom and I love you Lord.
Home with the One we live for.
