Week 595
Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Doubt Creeps In
I was thinking today about how I felt about a certain situation I was facing. The situation creeped in and caused me to feel upset. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of a familiar verse we talked about before, Philippians 4:6-7:
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
See the situation involved a plumbing issue, and it may not seem big to most, but for me it brought me back to the place of when I was younger. Growing up we did not have a lot of money and anything breaking would and may result in us having to go without it. For example for a year the washing machine broke and Mom had to wash all the cloths by hand. It would take all day and the house would feel like a sauna every Saturday morning into Saturday night. As I write this I think about how mom must of felt, maybe upset that mom was doing this, and where has my mom's life gone.
Well obstacles like the plumbing situation bring me back to the place where I would be reminded of the struggles. One of the things I fail to do is to remind myself of how God took care of us then, and how He will do so even now. The situation I am trying to practice is to remind myself in every situation to be at peace, not my peace but the peace of God knowing He will take care of every situation for His glory
As Christians when doubt creeps in and we feel we can't do something I know it's important to intention remind ourselves of all God has done and let His peace transcend us.
Be Blessed.
Love you Mom , and I love you, Lord.

1 Timothy 3:15
15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
When We Feel Frustrated
I was just in a situation where I had been working all night and then got to work and things were not going well. I got on a meeting and was explaining a problem I was facing and I asked: "Do any of you have any questions so far?" I heard silence, then I called on someone and heard silence and I called again and heard silence. Then suddenly I hear " I am here, are you here?"...."hahahahahahahahahaha". I responded with please stop laughing this is not funny then I continued to hear "ahahahahahah".
In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of 1 Timothy 3:15:
15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
Growing up I know I was not the greatest kid to my mom. I recall an incident where I was complaining about something in front of people at a prayer meeting and my mom got very frustrated with me and put me in my place. I was so embarrassed. I also knew I must have been a catalyst for Mom's reactions. Now growing up we never really apologized to each other, but I learned to apologize.
As I think through this verse for tonight I realize that as Christians we have a way specific that we need to conduct ourselves which is God-honoring even when others do not.
At the end of the meeting where this person was laughing, I apologized and the other person seemed to have understood. I left it there and moved on.
Being a Christian does not make us perfect, even when others wrong us, we need to conduct ourselves in a God-honoring manner, even when others do not. By this others will know that we belong to Christ. (John 13:35). The ultimate point is for others to know Christ.

Week 597
Galatians 6:2
2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ..
Caring For Others
One of my friends has been going through a lot and I have not been the best friend to her. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Galatians 6:2:
"2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."
When we were younger there was a specific time when my mom was walking down the street and someone ran up to my mom snatched mom's purse and ran away. This was all the money we had for the month, not to mention other valuables. Mom was so sad at what happened and unsure what could be done. My mom had very few friends. From what I know my mom was in great turmoil. Mom needed someone to talk with and Mom called one of Mom's friends. Later a few days later that friend came to mom's house one evening and was talking to mom, my mom Mrs. Upton. Mrs. Upton did not even come inside but was talking to Mom, and after a short conversation, Mrs. Upton pulled out some money and gave it to Mom. Mom said why, Mrs. Upton said don't worry about it and left. Now Mrs. Upton was not a person who had a lot.
The friend I mentioned above did something that I sternly advised her not to do. As a result, she is faced with the turmoil she is in. However, because of my advice falling on deaf ears, felt that it was OK, not to be supportive. I decided today though I have not been a good friend to my friend who is going through a lot to be there for her, to try and help carry her burdens. This does not always mean in a financial sense, but it could be by listening, praying, supporting, etc.
As Christians we should remember we all make mistakes, we should not "punish" someone for their mistakes but be there for them, in any way we can. By this, we show Jesus to them.

Proverbs 1:7 NIV
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 9:10 NIV
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Romans 12:2 NIV
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Knowledge, Conviction, Trust
During my normal Daily Devotions, an interesting topic came up, knowledge, conviction, and trust. There was a period in my existence when the Lord would send people across my way who would question from a scientific standpoint the truth of Christ. I would speak to these particular people and use Apologetics to answer their questions. As I think through this and the devotion I realize from a lesser or greater standpoint most people - including myself - do go through this to have saving in faith in Christ. In tonight's verses, we come to the following, which encompass knowledge, conviction, and trust:
"Proverbs 1:7 NIV
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 9:10 NIV
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Romans 12:2 NIV
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
My mom always stood by teaching us as kids about God. Back in 2004 during the screening of The Passion of Christ, I felt so convicted as to what Christ did for me. Ultimately the trust that I had in Christ became ever more real.
As Christians we go through periods of ups and downs, and also non-believers will as well undoubtedly. This knowledge, conviction, and trust pattern does not elude us but brings us to saving faith in Christ. With this as Christians, we can follow this pattern as we live and speak to non-believers about Jesus, ultimately having them bend their knees to Jesus and place their trust fully in Him, and Him alone, just as we do.

Week 599
Job 12:7–107 “But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
and the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
8 or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
9 Who among all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
10 In his hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all mankind.”
The Birds
Yesterday, I felt led to leave my phone to the side and work out. After completing the workout, I received a call from a friend who was crying. However, because I wasn’t distracted by my exercises, I was able to help her. My friend’s bird was dying, and I helped her find a vet to see. However, in the end, the bird passed away. My friend felt sad.
As I prepare this week for the weekly song and verse, I thought I would share this with my friend:. From the pages of Job 12:7–10:7 “But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
and the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
8 or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
9 Who among all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
10 In his hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all mankind.”
Growing up the way I did, I was always terrified at the thought of losing my mom. I would be so scared that I would pray nightly for the Lord not to take my mom away.
As I reflect on this verse tonight, it’s a reminder I want to share with my friend — that it is the Lord who knows these animals, and their life is in His hands. They know Him. In the same way, we know Him, and our life is in His hands too.
My friend’s bird, Mango, who passed away — this verse also tells us that they teach us who God is. Though the bird was in my friend’s hand in the final moments of his life, the bird knows God and understands the course of life. So too, we know God, and our life is in His hands.
Even though birds and animals are a lower life form, they show us God. Just as they look to us as their higher being, we look to our higher Being — our Creator.
So what is the purpose of the birds, the animals, and our pets?
They show us and remind us who holds our life in His hands.

Week 600
1 Corinthians 15:14
14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.
The Essentials: The Resurrection
Last night I was having a conversation with a person I met, and I started asking some Biblical questions, "Do you speak in tongues", and "What are your thoughts on women as pastors.". When I started asking these questions I got a few different responses. As I started processing these answers in my mind my thoughts went to The Essentials. During the next seven weeks we'll discuss the essentials as listed here:
This week, we'll discuss The Resurrection. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of, 1 Corinthians 15:14"
14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.
As a kid Mom as mentioned taught me about Jesus, and that included Jesus' Resurrection. Mom would take us to church and we would also be there for Easter. I understand that Jesus died and rose again. However, why is this essential to the Christian faith? Jesus came in the form of a human who died for our sins and was raised from death. If someone died for our sins our faith would be in that in a person who is not above humanity but a mere mortal, someone in other words who is not divine our trust therefore is in a human not in God.
But trusting in God means believing that the righteous judge who also proclaimed us guilty, stepped into our place as a sacrifice for our sins and defeated death/ Therefore Jesus' resurrection proves that He is more than a human - it proves He is God, and that His payment for sin was accepted. Because He lives we can have the confidence that we will live with Him forever.
A person who does not believe in this essential cannot claim to be a Christian. The resurrection isn't just a detail about our faith it is the foundation. Without it, there is no victory over sin, no hope for eternal life, and no living Savior to trust in. Christianity stands or falls on the resurrection of Christ.
Pray that all who follow Christ, do this with their heart, soul, mind, and strength (paraphrased from Mark 12:30)

Week 601
Romans 1:16
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
The Essentials: The Gospel
As stated last week, I was having a conversation with a person I met, and I started asking some Biblical questions. The questions led to my thoughts about The Essentials. So during the next seven weeks, we'll discuss the essentials as listed here:
This week, we'll discuss The Gospel. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Romans 1:16:
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
My mom made it a point when we were kids to read mom's Bible, in "mom's spot," which I recall being by the china cabinet, which seemed to have created a little table where Mom could place the Bible and stand and pray. As I think about it, the china cabinet at the time pointed to the living room, where we (mom's kids) would be mostly.
As mom showed us this example, mom also made it a point to have regular Bible studies at home using a children's Bible when we were younger, and also asked us to memorize Bible verses and recite them in front of church. As we got older, mom would ask us to read our Bible. My mom tried her best to express the importance of the Gospel.
So what is the Gospel? The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the first four books of the New Testament that teach us about Jesus. This is essential to the Christian faith because it shows us specifically what Jesus did by coming, living, and dying on the cross for our sins, being raised to life on the third day, and today we serve the living God.
However, the overall message conveyed throughout the Bible is the Gospel’s overall message, as all of Scripture points to Christ.
By knowing this and believing and trusting in the Gospel, that shows our salvation; we understand what Christ did for us, and it is through the power of the Holy Spirit it is revealed.
A person who does not believe in this essential cannot claim to be a Christian. The Gospel provides us with knowledge and understanding of who our Savior is and what He did to save us from eternal separation from God the Father.
Pray that all who follow Christ do this with their heart, soul, mind, and strength (paraphrased from Mark 12:30).
Be Blessed

Week 602
John 10:30
30 I and the Father are one.
The Essentials: The Deity of Christ
We are continuing this week with The Essentials, which was started because I was having a conversation with a person I met, and I began asking some Biblical questions. The questions led to my thoughts about The Essentials. So, for the third week, we'll continue. Below are the essentials as listed:
This week, we'll discuss The Deity of Christ. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 10:30:
30 I and the Father are one.
I will admit, when I was growing up, my mom made sure we had regular Bible study in the home, went to church, and had Sunday school. But Jesus being God was not a concept I truly was told or understood.
As I grew older, I remember someone saying that Easter was about God dying for us. That caused me to pause and think for a bit. Reviewing this information, and through prayer and pondering, I realized that Jesus is God and that He even said so.
You see, to the people in Jesus's day, Jesus saying, "I and the Father are one," meant to them that Jesus was claiming He was divine. More to it, the verses that followed showed the reaction of the Jewish leaders, who began to pick up stones to cast at Jesus. This showed that they understood this as blasphemy, as He is literally, not metaphorically, saying that He is God (John 10:31 and John 10:33).
So why is the Deity of Christ an essential? Romans 3:23 tells us that "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," meaning all humans. And before this, in Isaiah 43:11 (ESV), "I, I am the Lord, and besides me there is no savior." So only the Lord can save. If Jesus was not God, He would be incapable of saving us, for all humans are sinners, and therefore they cannot save us. It took God to save us, and Jesus tells us that He is God, and He is the one who saves us.
Therefore, Jesus could not be a mere human or someone God the Father created. Based on this, a person who does not believe in this essential cannot claim to be a Christian. The Deity of Christ shows us that only God can save. Christianity would fall apart if Jesus were not God.
Christianity does not fall apart because Jesus is God.
Pray that all who follow Christ do so with their heart, soul, mind, and strength (paraphrased from Mark 12:30).

Week 603
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
The Essentials: Salvation by Grace
Just to reiterate, here we are continuing this week with The Essentials. This was started because I was having a conversation with a person I met, and I began asking some Biblical questions. The questions led to my thoughts about The Essentials. So, for the fourth week, we'll continue with this very important topic that determines if a person is a true follower of Christ. Below are the essentials as listed:
This week, we'll discuss Salvation by Grace. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Ephesians 2:8-9:
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
As a kid, my mom taught me about Jesus, and the understanding was that Jesus came to pay for my sins. As a kid, I would say I understood this on the surface. Growing up and spending time in God's Word started me on a trajectory toward understanding truly what I was saved from. You see, many people think they aren't "sinners" and that being a human being and going with their feelings is the way to live, and therefore they cannot be a sinner. However, when you line this up with humankind, sure, it makes sense. However, when you line this up with a standard that is higher than humans, then a mirror is reflected onto us, and we can see why we are truly sinners and why Christ came to save us.
Simply put, sinning is disobedience to the standards of God. That standard is laid out in the Moral Law, also known as the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21). Knowing that if I look at a woman with lust, I have committed adultery in my heart (Matthew 5:28)—one of the Ten Commandments that I have broken—is reflected upon me as disobedient to God. This eternally separates me from God. However, God is just and righteous. He chose to stand in my place. This standing in my place is the salvation that saves me. It is a gift, given to us by grace. There was nothing I could do to save myself from the penalty of death, but God Himself saves me by grace.
So why is Salvation by Grace an essential? Ephesians 2:9 tells us "...it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast." It is a gift that God gives us freely, and what do we do when we are given a gift? We choose to accept it, and we trust the gift, and no human can save themselves of their sins, it takes a higher being to Save, and He offers this as a free gift.
Therefore, when we accept God's gift—Jesus—and trust that this gift, Jesus, and what it means, it means salvation. And this salvation was given to us by grace alone.
Christianity stands on this Essential.
Pray that all who follow Christ do so with their heart, soul, mind, and strength (paraphrased from Mark 12:30).
