Weekly Verse and Song for Tonight Weeks 586 - 594

Week 576
Acts 19:9-10
But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus. This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.
Closing Doors
Life can be difficult at times and at the same time, life can be exciting, when things are difficult and when things are exciting we should always be praising the Lord, for there is nothing that occurs in this life without the sovereign foreknowledge of our Heavenly Father. This week I got into a situation where a "friend" told me she did not want to move forward with us being friends. I was shocked and hurt at the same time, but I did understand her position. However, what I did not understand was the intentional hurting. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Acts 19:9-10:
"But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus. This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks."
When I was younger my mom taught me something, that mom would punish me to make me better when I would do something wrong. My mom did it because there were lessons to be learned and mom wanted me to be a better person. Mom did not do this because my mom was intentionally trying to hurt me though.
What occurred was my friend was intentionally trying to hurt me. After she said what she said, I wanted to share my thoughts, but she interrupted me and said "If you want to continue to repeat the same thing I am going to get off the phone as I need to go to Bible Study!" I proceeded to tell her that this was wrong, that you called me to intentionally try to hurt me, wanted to rush off to your life, and that you are acting like a husband who on Sunday morning curses at his wife, yells at his kids and then they all rush to Church to raise their hands during the worship. I also told her today you showed me your true colors and that there is a difference between right and wrong and you are wrong. I told her that at this point you do not need to call me anymore.
In the verse tonight Paul left the stubborn people who continued in their evil ways. As Christians, we must understand that in this life we are to understand people's true character, and not let them continue in their ways. We are to represent Christ and know conflicts will arise, our part is to move on from those who show us their true character. To forgive them and move on.
It may not seem to be the Christian way to do this but God shows us what we must do as examples found in the scriptures trust Him, when doors close. Praise Him no matter what, He is preventing you from future hurts.
Be Blessed

Hebrews 13:5
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Figuring What's Important
I was talking to a friend this week about what's important in life, and one of the tunings that came out of this, not spending time or in other words invest on things that are "temporary" but to invest in things that are permanent even though we know things are not permanent. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of Hebrews 13:5:
"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” "
When I was younger my mom poured into me, investing in me by teaching me about the Lord, teaching me how to do things in life. Mom invested in me. I like to think that the investment produce fruit.
This is what I was meaning to my friend to invest in things that are not temporary. How can this be done, investing in kingdom of God.

Exodus 14:14
14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Trust God
I have been hanging out with a friend for a few months, this friend of mine was kind and had an equivalent heart. Then after about 5 months, I realized something else about this friend. This friend was seemingly using me for attention and self-fulfillment. I was shocked to learn this it left me in a state of disarray and fear. My thoughts were all over in the sense of confusion. In tonight's verse, we come to the book of Exodus, where we see the Israelites, in a state of fear and confusion. We pick up at Exodus 14:4:
"14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."
The thing about living the way we did with my mom as we were growing up, was that we didn't have a lot, and as such our dependency was ultimately on God. When I look back I can see how fear could have easily gripped us and yet mom stood as a shield for us. My mom taught us about the Lord and ultimately Mom understood and passed on to us that God will fight for us, and not only that but He has and is!
It was right at the Red Sea the Israelites had trusted Moses and no they hit a point where they could not cross, and they were about to be ambushed by the Egyptians, yet Moses prayed to God and though the Israelites were now complaining, Moses knew God would rescue them. Though they were to be still, which is saying to trust, their actions still needed to follow as God told Moses to tell the people to move on (Exodus 14:13-15).
When I look back at what my friend did the disarray and fear are because I trusted someone, to be a good kindhearted human being. When I realized that this person wasn't I was left with the feeling that no one can be trusted.
You see our trust is not in people but in the God we serve, all others good or bad are instruments to point us to Him.

Week 579
Exodus 14:16
16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.
Trust God (Part 2)
Sometimes trusting God requires us to do things that may not make sense in the human mind. Last week we discussed trusting God and what that looked like for the Israelites as they were in the wilderness approaching the Red Sea with Pharaoh and his army approaching to overtake them. This week we continue with the next part of the passage.
This past week I got some news that I needed a medical procedure done. I was a bit shocked by it but at the same time was OK to know this would correct the issue. There were moments when I did not want to take the proper steps my mind was stating why when I felt like I was improving. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Exodus 14:16:
"Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground."
Growing up my mom simply asked me to read my Bible and pray. Sometimes I thought it was good, sometimes not. Nevertheless, I would and over the years I realized how this practice has helped me to do something that sounds simple but isn't always, and that's to trust God. Related to that I also recall things my mom wanted me to do, one of those things was to walk the dog. Sometimes I would have a hard day and walking the dog was just another thing that I felt would make my hard day harder. Well, something interesting would happen by walking the dog it was a way to unwind to let my mind think. To this day I realize how much walks help this.
Well as Christians all things come from God, sometimes the things that we are unsure of require us to trust God even more. Moses was told by God to stretch out his hands over the sea and when he did the flood waters parted allowing the Israelites to be rescued from the oncoming Pharaoh and his army (Exodus 14:16-31).
See though it was my mom who asked me to read my Bible and to walk the dog it was the Lord's provision for me to follow. Sometimes we can get into our way and it's God who uses people to help us see His way.
As Christians let's keep our perspective on God and know that He will see us through.

Week 580
2 Timothy 1:7
7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Fear
There was a time in my life when I would look at things, reflect on them, and feel a sense of fear rise up. This week, I faced a health issue that led to the need for surgery. For almost two weeks, I felt very nervous about it. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of 2 Timothy 1:7:
7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
My mom always taught me by actions not to fear. I spoke with a friend and asked her to pray for me. After she prayed, it felt like the fear began to lift.
As Christians, we need to surround ourselves with strong believers — people who can support us in times of fear and point us back to the One who truly overcomes all fear: Jesus.

Isaiah 41:13
13 For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
Keep Going
At the moment, I am typing this with one arm, as my other arm is in a sling. As I do this, my neck is hurting and so is my head. Sometimes I think, well, I’ll let this go until I get better. However, I feel led by the Lord to keep going. In tonight’s verse, we come to the pages of Isaiah 41:13:
13 For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
As a kid, a big impression was made on me by Mom. My mom always worked hard for us; however, the source was God. I am reminded today that God keeps us going. The thing we must do is follow and trust.
Today, as Christians, when we are tempted to give up on something, let’s hear from the Lord on what path we should take.

Week 582
Joshua 1:9
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Confidence
One of the things that has been on my mind as of late is being confident. Sometimes I lose my confidence because of worrying what another person might think of me then at times I am not. However, as I was thinking through this today, the verse that came to mind was the verse from Joshua 1:9:
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This verse has been one of my favorite verses as of late. My mom always seemed to exude confidence in times when I would think that a single parent raising kids, in a foreign country would be hard. I recall my mom being confident in Church, being confident at the store, being confident walking down the street, in school, and more. As I think through this, it reminds me that the strength my mom had to be confident was not something mom just had, mom's source was Christ, and through Him, Mom's confidence increased as was there.
For myself, I am learning to remember that wherever I go whatever I do just like Joshua the Lord of this universe is with me, and for that alone I can be confident that He has me, and will protect me in every and all situation, no matter what the outcomes are.
As Christians remember who your source is, know that the Lord is with you always, and walk with confidence that God has you and will protect you in every and all situations.
Be Blessed.

Week 583
Proverbs 7:11-12
She is loud and wayward; her feet do not stay at home; now in the street, now in the market, and at every corner she lies in wait.
Being Too Busy
Just this week I had a conversation with a friend and was telling her about people who try to flood their days with so many things to avoid being a lone. This discussion was about two friends who specifically told me that they "hated" being a lone and another who told me that "she may have an opening at xxx time to talk". As I was thinking through this it hit me many people are like this to avoid problems and not be able to face challenges. In a sense its a deception brought on by wordly pursuits that take the place and ypu away from the Lord. In tonight's verse we come to the pages of Proverbs 7:11-12:
"She is loud and wayward; her feet do not stay at home; now in the street, now in the market, and at every corner she lies in wait."
Here in this Proverb it discusses an adulterous woman who's aim is to tempt a young man. In this sense this wayward womens aim is to move the receiver away from godly morals.
My mom always encouraged us to read out Bibles and mom help usher this a long by teaching us through a Children's Bible. Mom instilled the sense in me to put God first. As I got older I started learning that it wasn't just putting God first but putting God in every day life. For example, when something in life occurs, a job loss, a failled marriage, friendhsups ending, we as Christians should ask ourselves why is God allowing this.
However when when we occupy our time with things other than God and therefore stay so busy that we avoid seeing what He is doing in our lives we fail to keep God in the center of our lives.
As Christians let's help each other to avoid "being too busy" so much so that we neglect the things of God.
Be Blessed.

Week 584
Acts 14:22
strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.
Past Struggle
I was pondering something today during my daily devotional, regarding the apostle's struggles in life and how their past struggles can help the believers today, including myself who may endure hardships at various times. In Tongight's verse, I find the answer in Acts 14:22:
"strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said."
One of the main things I remember in life is my mom's struggles. Mom always worked hard to provide for us by God's grace but at the same time, I could see Mom having difficulties in doing things by my mom's self. Once the washing machine broke down and there was no money to buy a new one as mom needed to save money. So over a year every Saturday morning until Saturday night, the house turned into a sauna as mom would wash all four kids' clothes by hand and wring them out. Mom struggled to do this as I look back I realize how hard it must have been for Mom. Today Mom was resting in Heaven with Christ our Lord and Savior.
When I think about the hardships in life we can always look back, for Christians today the struggles of the apostles lead them to the kingdom of Heaven. As Christians, we can follow their examples and even modern examples with this answer in mind:
The hardships allow us to enter the kingdom of heaven
Today, tomorrow, or whenever you face struggles, pause for a second and know that as you stay faithful as you endure hardships, this will bring forth good in your life, and your example can serve countless generations as we all live with our eyes on the Kingdom of God.
Be Blessed.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.
