Week 558
Hebrews 13:16
"And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."
When Others Are In Need
I like helping others. For example if Im at a store I look for opportunities to help someone, to reach an item they can't or something else. It's just something I enjoy doing. However, there are times when I know that helping someone can be expended too far and that is I may question if it's something I should do. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Hebrews 13:16:
"And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."
I know I spoke on this before my mom offered to give gifts to someone and that person after accepting those gifts turned around and seemingly insulted my mom, though it was perhaps how the person said something not necessarily what was specifically said. Nevertheless, my mom felt bad, however, my mom did not retaliate.
There I think is the point that when we help others it should be to do good for others, sharing with them all knowing that God is pleased with us.
So this brings up the question of when helping others gets expended too far to the point where it becomes overly. This came up for me when one person was asking me questions and the questions being asked required me to take up a significant amount of time to complete. This caused me to realize that the time to do this work would be too much for me to handle however, I knew that it would be beneficial to the person. In cases like this and others, we can be polite in our take on helping someone further. This nonetheless should be met with prayer first as it may be God's will for us to expend ourselves ultimately for His glory.
As Christians, we should make sure we are following God's will for our lives and specifically in this case helping someone. We should ask if the helping we are doing, wanting to do, or sharing is pleasing to the Lord.
Be Blessed
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Week 559
Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight."
Stepping Out with Trust in the Lord
I always think that stepping out and trusting the Lord can look like a lot of different depending on how and what the circumstance or sitaiuon is. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Proverbs 3:5-6:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight."
When I was younger my mom always encouraged me to pray and read my Bible as I got older I started understanding one of the main reasons was because God's word is a source of comfort and strength for us. Mom would read Mom's Bible a lot and pray as it was Mom's way of submitting to God. Mom was teaching me that when we submit to the Lord, God directs us.
Recently I was asked to host a dinner, well my answer was yes. Then this dinner started to turn into a party, and I realized I was probably a bit over my head. Some frustration started setting in, but one of the things I told myself was that it was just one day. After I progressed in the planning my mind started to think about the things of God and how the Lord was perhaps stretching me out of my comfort zone. I realized that by submitting to God in all I do I allow God to work in me, especially in areas I am not comfortable in.
God can show us more than we ever think when we submit to Him. Today if you are doing something, experiencing something that may seem unusual, see that "something" as coming from Him and be open to what He is doing in your life.
Be Blessed
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Hebews 4:15
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
Christ Identifies With Us
During this morning's devotional something caught my attention that though I read it before I was in tears. The past week has been exhausting for me it seemed like it was one thing after another, I had some exhaustion that set in from a Thanksgiving host I had, then the next day the door handle broke on the front then the next day the shower handle broke, and this led to a bit of anxiety that led to exhaustion. During that time I was thinking I know God knows. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Hebews 4:15:
"15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin."
This verse caught my attention as well as verse 14 and 16.
Mom always tried to help me in school, and other things, but something I recall in my mind was that mom was born here and mom tried hard to work and earn. One year Mom went to school to become a nursing assistant, mom studied hard and got great grades. As I think of this now I am reminded mom could identify with me with the struggles of studying, but I could not exactly identify with mom about all things in life at a young age. However, today the roles are reversed and now I can identify with some of the things Mom struggled with.
Most importantly the same is true of Jesus. As tonight's verse shows Christ identifies us in our weakness. Jesus knows all that we are going through and have gone through because He experienced Himself. From being hungry, angry, lonely, and tired Christ understands all of this. What a blessing we have to know that our creator understands us first hand we do not ever have to wonder.
Today as a Christian, no matter what you are facing know that you can go to God in prayer and He understands firsthand what you are experiencing because He, Himself has. Most importantly our Lord stood in our place and took the punishment we deserved.
Be Blessed.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Week 552
Judges 7:10; 7:13-14
Judges 7:10
10 If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah
Judges 7:13-14
13 Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. “I had a dream,” he was saying. “A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed.”
14 His friend responded, “This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.”
The Benefit of Godly Friends
This past weekend I was at a house showing and when I was there I met someone who I thought was interesting. I wanted to speak to this person further but did not get the opportunity. As I left without the chance to speak to this person I felt a bit down, I then asked the Lord. In tonight's verse, we turn to the pages of Judges 7:10 and 7:13-14:
10 If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah
13 Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. “I had a dream,” he was saying. “A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed.”
14 His friend responded, “This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.”
I always remember using my mom as a soundboard, when I had a struggle or question about things I could ask mom. Mom would sometimes give me advice and sometimes my mom would know the answer but mom would pray and ask me to as well.
In tonight's verse, the Lord told Gideon since he was afraid to attack the Midianites with only 300 men go and spy on them and you overheard something important. What Gideon heard was one of the men in the Midianite camp had a dream and the dream meant that Gideon and his army would overtake them. As God has given them into Gideon's hands.
When I asked the Lord about this person I felt led that I should speak with a friend. My friend told me straight what this was all about and to try and meet this person but overall to look elsewhere.
Here's the point, sometimes God will give us the answer, and sometimes God will instruct us to get the answer to our questions, but it is all from Him. As Christians today if you are struggling with something ask the Lord and be open to how He answers you.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Isaiah 41:10
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Always With Us
The couple of weeks I have this feeling, this feeling of being alone. This week I seemingly hurt my shoulder all of a sudden these emotions overcame me and I felt even further alone. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Isaiah 41:10:
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
On a very special day, my mom was ironing some clothes for me, and my mom turned to me looked at me, and said Remember something your mom is your best friend. That touched me on the inside that day. I remember exactly where my mom was standing and how my mom looked at me. Fast forward to today, my mom has passed away and I feel I am finding life on my own I look around and see others enjoying life and going about their days seemingly happy.
Well as I mentioned I hurt my shoulder seemingly a sudden rush of emotions came over me, the reason is because back in 2019 I hurt my shoulder and had surgery I was all alone fending everything off for myself. The thought of my mom being here to help me was there back then. This was very real and the emotions strike deep. A friend went on a trip this past weekend and I said "You didn't tell me", she said, "Was I supposed to". Another friend told me if I hurt myself and had no one to help me "You're on your own...". All these words added to my feeling of loneliness
As I searched the scripture I came across the verse for tonight, Isaiah 41:10, however, the King James Version (KJV) strengthens me the way the holy verse is written. This encouraged me today. Read it "...for I am thy God". We have the creator of the universe saying to us these words.
If today you are feeling alone pray to God to remind you who He is, read through this verse, and remember "...for I am thy God."

Week 554
2 Samuel 22:3-4
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
True Courage
It was said to me that courage is when you are afraid to do something but do it anyway. Lately, God has been impressing me with this truth, but this courage is not something that comes because I make it up, this courage is from God which is true courage. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of 2 Samuel 22:3-4:
"My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies"
I always recall when I was younger my mom doing things to take care of us. At the time I never considered it to be something mom was afraid to do, but just thought of it as a normal occurrence. Take for example there was a full year where every Saturday morning and night the house would turn into a sweaty and wet sauna. The reason for this is because our washing machine had broken and we did not have the money to buy a new one. My mom would take the clothes of us four kids and wash them and our dryer worked though so mom would put the hand-wrunged clothes in it to dry turning the house into a sauna-like atmosphere. To be honest I felt I was too young to truly appreciate that but looking back that was a huge task mom took on. It took a lot for Mom as Mom's arms, hands, etc. would probably hurt and it might have contributed to some health issues later in life. Mom dared to do this, but this courage was not on Mom's own but from the Lord.
In the last few weeks I have been reminded that the courage I need to have in my life is not from me but from the Lord who walks by me not just in certain situations but in all when it comes to talking to others, speaking up during meetings, or whatever it is, trusting that the courage we build up in ourselves comes from the Lord and that as long as we are walking with Him, He is with us.
Knowing this in my life encourages me to bolster my courage and know God is with me through it all. The same is true for anyone who places their trust in Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 41:13
13 For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
Where Is Your Dependence
One of the main things I am learning about myself this week is my reliance and where I truly place my trust. I feel very nervous about a purchase I am going to make as I am thinking about it in my head I am constantly in thoughts of fear. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Isaiah 41:13:
Isaiah 41:13
13 For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
When I was younger I remember seeing mom and how much I loved my mom. I remember that there were days when my mom would leave the house and not come home for hours. I would be out buying us groceries. After a while when my mom would not come home, I would get so scared and fearful inside. I would stand at the window and scream... "MOM!!!"
My brother would always make fun of me. However, for me, it was a real fear I had. See at a young age my dependence was on my mom, as I did not know anything more.
A few years ago when I made a similar purchase I had a more dependable job and felt more relaxed like nothing was going to hurt me. This week I realized that I have been depending on that job over God. In a sense, the security that I felt from that job was not of God. I ponder this as I read Daniel 6. The Bible verse talks about the wise man that though a decree was placed that he should not pray to any god he still prayed to God three times a day. However, his actions resulted in him being thrown into a lion's den. God protected him.
In our lives as Christians, it is important to take inventory of all that we depend on, and think through it, is my dependence on this job, this friend this object, or is my dependence on God?
I am choosing in the life that God has given me to place my dependence on Him, no matter where I go He has not failed me. He will never fail you either, place your trust in Him.

1 Corinthians 15:58
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Standing Firm
I keep myself busy, by working on things that I feel led to do by the Lord. Many, times, however, why am I doing this, and should I be doing this? In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of 1 Corinthians 15:58:
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
As a kid I always had things I needed to do that were part of growing up, such as cleaning, doing school work, etc. These are things my mom expected of me but also things that I know I had to do as I was accountable to mom. It's a bit different being an adult and doing the work, we are always responsible to someone, but part of our understanding as we get older is that ultimately we are accountable to God.
Sometimes I find myself doing things and as I mentioned above I question why I am doing it. This is the true crossroads. You see God gives each of us "something to do" and this task is ultimately to bring glory to Him. This task can be raising a family, establishing a business, doing your work at your job, or something and everything in between, God calls each of us to work that will bring Him glory.
As I started asking myself why or should I be doing something I am reminded that during those times those questions are answered simply by this will bring God glory. If my answer is "yes" then it drives me stand firm and to completion and, if the answer is "no, or I am not sure" then it's important to seek guidance from the Lord to know how I should proceed. The Lord will show you as long as your heart is submitted and open to the answer.
Be Blessed

Week 557
Exodus 14:14
14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Waiting Is Trusting
A few weeks ago I spoke about being still. This week continues that theme, with waiting which truly amounts to trusting. Recently I spoke with a friend about something I feel I have been waiting to do for the last 2 almost 3 years. This waiting seems to be that I am not necessarily standing still and doing nothing but moving in the direction I believe the Lord wants me to go in. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Exodus 14:14:
14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
When I was younger I remember I wanted a video game system for Christmas. My mom would scrap and always give us $50 for Christmas and $50 for Summer vacation. Well, I asked Mom to hold that for me as I wanted a Nintendo for Christmas, and it took about a year. I remember waking up on a Christmas morning, which was a Saturday this year, and wishing that this year I could get the Nintendo. I wanted it so much. When the money was finally saved up we went to Toys R Us to get the Nintendo and it was sold out. I was disappointed but the manager mentioned that it would be coming in and I would just have to wait. The waiting for me was so hard.
The Israelites encountered this when they approached the Red Sea and Pharaoh and the Egyptian armies were coming, Moses told them that the Lord would fight for them, just trust.
In this sense, God was teaching me that waiting on His timing is important and that waiting was a part of His plan. In that waiting God is fighting for us, we just need to trust in His plan. As a kid I did not know or understand this but looking back now I see why, when I trust God in the little things it will make the bigger things that we wait for not as hard.
