Week 497
John 16:13
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
The Truth
I have been inspired over the last few weeks through my daily devotions. One thing late that has been coming up is "The Truth". As I think through this it reminded me of a friend I spoke to last week. I was letting her know that no matter what it is better to tell the truth than not to. In speaking this I self-reflect on The Holy Spirit's leading. In tonight's verse, we come to John 6:13, as Jesus spoke:
"13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come."
When I was younger my mom always looked at me as someone who told the truth. I'm not trying to boast but this is something that I tried to always do, and though I do I am not perfect in it. However, I try.
God gives every believer the Holy Spirit who serves us as a guide, His guidance guides us to Jesus and reveals the truth about Him. Much so The Holy Spirit also guides us through our consciousness (Romans 9:1) to what is true and living truthful.
As Christians, we should always remember we are not perfect, but it is The Holy Spirit who guides us in life, and we seek Jesus through the Holy Spirit. The truth is a part of every believer, He is Jesus, and it is of utmost importance that we follow Him in truth and walk that way in our lives. Today if you feel led to the truth about Jesus, do not ignore this, as well as the way to live (2 Timothy 2:11-13)
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Week 498
John 1:1-5
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
The Light
This week I started year 7 of BSF (Bible Study Fellowship). This year we are studying the book of John. The verse we started with was John 1:1-5 Jesus becoming the flesh. It's important to note this as this verse teaches us who Jesus is. In tonight's verse, we come to John 1:1-5:
"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
When I was growing up we lived in a neighborhood that was hard, not so hard as mom protected us by keeping us home, but the thing that mom taught us was to be a follower of Jesus. We weren't always readily to say that we were followers of Christ but Mom taught us. Mom was essentially teaching us to follow the Light of Jesus Christ and to be the lights of the world.
In our world today we see many negative things that can drag us down and hinder us from reaching our potential for Jesus. For me growing up was hard when I look back at it today. For me today I see many negative influences around me that hurt and bruise me, for example, with work and people I interact with. However, it is important as Christians to stand firm in the face of the darkness to be the light as Jesus is the Light. By standing firm no matter the darkness we promote Christ and there is nothing better in life than Jesus' name being lifted up.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Week 499
John 1:23
23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.
Our Passion
This week I have been pondering what my calling in life is when someone seemed to have asked me what I am passionate about. Well, I like to work out, and eat healthy, I work in Cybersecurity, and I enjoy teaching as well, though these are my interests I would not call any of them my passion. My passion and a Christian's highest calling comes from Matthew 28:16-20 (The Great Commission) and that is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world.
In tonight's verse, we come to John 1:23 (speaking is John the Baptist):
"23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord."
One of the main things I bring up is that Jesus is the only way to eternal life. However, knowing Jesus was taught to me by my mom through the power of the Holy Spirit. In the verse above John is making the statement that he is the one who speaks about Jesus. Essentially John is talking about Jesus Christ the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29)
As Christians we must follow suit, our purpose in life is to tell the message of Jesus Christ. How we do it may differ but it is our calling and it is our passion.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

Week 500
John 1:46
46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.
“Come and see,” said Philip.
Interruptions
I recall about 20 years ago I was going to school on a Saturday morning to find a quiet place to study in my favorite building the Science Library. It was a nice library and I had been working all week at school and at a part-time job I had. I was excited to be able to spend some quality time studying. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of John 1:46 where we encounter a skeptic:
" “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.
“Come and see,” said Philip. "
You see verses before this Philip was called by Jesus (John 1:43), as Jesus told Philip to "follow me". Philip followed and not only this went to tell Nathanael. Nathanael replied with skepticism until he met Jesus. Jesus showed Nathanael who He was and Nathanael believed (John 1:47-50).
When I went to school that day my time was interrupted by a person who was asking for food, water, and money. I was deeply annoyed as all I wanted to do was study, but I could not let this person be, I had to help. I realized after he told me that he was a refugee that I had a lot of fear in helping this person. I even left this person and went home and asked my mom what I should do who then asked me to talk to the pastor. I went back to school, found this person, and helped him.
In our daily lives, we have plans, sometimes God will interrupt our plans so that we can show others Him. When this happens our first instinct might be to get upset or annoyed like I did. If we take a moment to pause and remember everything is coming from God, we will be reminded that it is His will not ours.
Love you Mom, and I love you, Lord.

Week 493
Colossians 3:23-24
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Doing Everything For The Lord
On occasion, I may catch an episode of UnderCover Boss. If you aren't familiar with the show it is a show where the CEO of a company goes "undercover" and disguises himself as an employee. The purpose it seems is for the CEO to discover issues in the organization and to make improvements. What I am always intrigued by however is the employees of the company not all but many of them are hard-working and motivated. In tonight's verse, we come to Colossians 3:23-24:
"23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."
This verse is not only about our occupations, but it is a lesson about life. When I was growing up my mom didn't have a "job". My mom's job was to raise us kids and grow us up. My mom did not take this lightly as mom made sure we learned about the Bible, we prayed, and trusted in God. On top of all that mom worked hard going to the store to get us food, balancing the little money we had, making sure we had birthday and Christmas gifts, washing clothes, etc. There is a lot more for me to list here. My mom showed us that work ethic was a godly ethic whether mom was paid in the traditional sense or not it was working hard for what was entrusted to mom which was us.
This has a trickle-down effect as it is something that I think about now. Working hard is important but in everything, it is for the Lord. I carry this through with my actual work, my exercise, my side work, chores, etc. Just like the employees of businesses as displayed on Undercover Boss, we should be hard-working and motivated as we "work" because we are serving our Lord.
As Christians, it is an important facet of our lives that everything we do is for the Lord, He is the One we honor and He has entrusted us.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Temptation
Many times I feel a sense of being overwhelmed, this overwhelm pushed the boundaries of temptation, these temptations that come I know I can rest on one thing, God's word. In tonight's verse 1 Corinthians 10:13:
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
When I was younger many random things could be a temptation. For my mom, it was money I know my mom was always trying to earn money to take care of mom's family. One day my mom tells me out of a shopping trip where people told mom that they had money to divide with mom. They asked mom for mom's money mom gave it to them and this resulted in mom being handed an envelope. Well what was in the envelope was not money, but a bunch of blank sheets of paper.
Mom was tempted to know that money was what was needed for mom to take care of family.
A lesson to learn in life is that when temptations come we must seek God. God is the provider He a lone provides for our needs in whatever way He sees fit.
Love you mom and I love you, Lord.

Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.
Fruits of the Spirit
Last night a friend of mine told me how happy she was to know me. My friends went on about how she felt so happy that she met me when she did and that she feels great talking to me, and the patience I have. In tonight's verse, we come to the pages of Galatians 5:22-23:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.
Here we see Paul speaking to the people of Galatia, and letting them know the fruit of the Spirit of God. When I was younger I will always see my mom as someone who loved me and cared for me. Mom displayed a level of patience when I was younger. However, as I got older my mom had even more patience for me. I think this stemmed from Mom's growth with the Lord, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who over time my mom knew more and bear the fruit of His.
My friend told me I had patience was nice to hear, but the truth is I did not always have a lot of patience, not a lot of the fruit of the Spirit. However, over time this became better and stronger in my life as I bore His fruit more in my life.
As Christians, we may not immediately bear the fruit of the Spirit, but through time, commitment, and prayer I think all Christians will bear these. If today you are struggling to show this, through prayer, commitment, and time ask the Lord to grow you.

Week 495
Proverbs 19:20
20 Listen to advice and accept instruction,
that you may gain wisdom in the future.
Giving Advice and Taking Advice
This late morning I found myself having a conversation with a friend. I was giving her some career advice as we are in the same field. This spurred me to remember something that happened a few weeks ago at work. I was asked by a supervisor to be more authoritative and to speak the same.
In tonight's verse, we come to Proverbs 19:20:
20 Listen to advice and accept instruction,
that you may gain wisdom in the future.
When my mom was here, mom would at times give me advice, and when mom did not know what to do mom would suggest I speak with someone or mom would say honestly, "I really don't know". However, when I look back I believe my mom would be praying for me in every and all circumstances.
Reading and listening to others' advice is just as important as giving it. When the supervisor told me this seemed to give me ammunition and fuel to speak authoritatively. I knew that this would help me, now and in the future.
More importantly remember this, as we live as Christians in this life we must see everything the good, and the bad (perceived) coming from the Lord. He is in charge of our lives and assumes responsibility. So the advice you are giving and taking should spur your drive to do something different or better than what you are currently doing.

1 Kings 17:8-16
8 Then the word of the Lord came to him: 9 “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.” 10 So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” 11 As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.”
12 “As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”
13 Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. 14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”
15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. 16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.
God is the Provider
This early morning I woke up and felt a bit distraught over something I did a few months ago, It wasn't anything wrong, it was just about a decision I made. This decision, however, made me wonder why did God allow this to happen. My mind went back to thinking that God is showing me that He is my Provider, not me. Then I went over to read my daily devotion and the devotion reminded me that God is my source. In tonight's verse, we come to 1 Kings 17:8-16:
8 Then the word of the Lord came to him: 9 “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.” 10 So he went to Zarephath. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” 11 As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.”
I always think of my mom when writing these weekly articles. It reminds me that God through my mom showed me struggles in this life and decisions in this life, in fact, everything in this life points to God.
When reviewing "tonight's verse" I am reminded that God is my provider the woman at Zarephath trusted that God would provide for her and her son just as Elijah trusted that God would provide for Him through this woman.
In everyone's life, there may be times of doubting and uncertainty. When this happens remind yourself that no matter what God is your Provider. Week 496
When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” 11 As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.”
Additionally, before this happens remind yourself that God is there for you by daily reading scriptures, praying, and seeking Him in all areas of your life.
Love you Mom and I love you, Lord.
